Moldova Sets Guinness Record with the Largest Human Representation of a Grapevine

Celebrating Wine: Moldova's Historic Record

On October 3, 2026, the Republic of Moldova made headlines by earning a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for assembling 493 individuals to create the world's largest human image of a grapevine. The event took place at Chisinau's Great National Assembly Square during the 25th edition of National Wine Day, a celebration that pays homage to Moldova's rich winemaking tradition.

During this milestone event, the human grapevine stretched an impressive 39 meters and was meticulously planned under the theme, "United by Wine." This theme resonated deeply with the thousands of attendees, who gathered to appreciate not only the wine but also the artistic display symbolizing the country's prestigious viticulture.

Participants were carefully arranged to represent various elements of the grapevine, including its roots, trunk, branches, grape clusters, leaves, and tendrils. The organizers utilized different colors of clothing for each component to enhance visibility from the air, ensuring clarity in the formation’s design.

The record attempt was overseen by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ adjudicator Pravin Patel, who confirmed the successful completion of the event. Each participant was registered and assigned specific positions, while strict measures, including QR-code scanning, were employed to maintain accurate counts and prevent double registrations. Participants maintained their formation for approximately 15 minutes, allowing for thorough documentation and adherence to over 30 technical criteria set by the record-keeping body.

Stefan Iamandi, Director of the National Office for Vine and Wine, expressed his pride, stating, "Achieving this world record is an incredibly beautiful gift for the 25th edition of National Wine Day. It highlights not just our winemaking heritage but also the spirit of unity among our people."

This year's National Wine Day also saw heightened participation, with 114 wineries showcasing their offerings and an impressive 14,000 tasting booklets sold — a surge of about 50% compared to the previous year. The event attracted wine enthusiasts from over 70 countries, further solidifying Moldova’s reputation as a prominent player in the global wine industry.

With its slogan, "Wine of Moldova. Unexpectedly Great," the celebration has become the nation's most significant annual event, drawing attention to Moldova's finest wines. Plans are already underway for the next edition, which is scheduled for October 2-3, 2027.

This record isn't just about numbers; it's a visual testament to Moldova's cultural essence, celebrating the fruits of its labor and the unity fostered through this cherished tradition. With each cluster of humans forming part of the grapevine, Moldova demonstrated that perhaps the greatest harvest is the spirit of community cultivated among its people.

In conclusion, Moldova’s achievement reflects not only its dedication to winemaking but also the continuous effort to bring people together through shared traditions and celebrations. The recent Guinness World Record serves both as an acknowledgment of its past and a beacon of its promising future in the wine industry.
