JA Mitsui Lease Partners with PowerX to Launch Energy Storage in Mie Prefecture

JA Mitsui Lease and PowerX Join Forces for Energy Storage in Mie

JA Mitsui Lease Co., Ltd. has officially started operations at its new energy storage facility in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture, in collaboration with PowerX, Inc. This project aims to enhance the balance of electricity supply and demand in the Chubu region, especially amidst the increasing incorporation of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.

The energy storage facility, named the Geino-chō Hagino Storage, commenced operations on March 19, 2026, providing services in the demand-supply adjustment market and primary adjusting power. As renewable sources like solar and wind are inherently variable, this facility will play a crucial role in stabilizing power supply by charging during surplus periods and discharging during shortages.

JA Mitsui Lease and PowerX have developed this facility as part of their broader initiative to implement three energy storage sites in the Chubu area, with Geino-chō Hagino being the first operational site. The ownership and operation are managed by JMES BESS ONE LLC, a subsidiary of JA Mitsui Energy Solutions, which has secured favorable project revenue predictability through PowerX's fixed-price payment scheme known as 'Storage Facility Touring®.' Notably, PowerX supplied and manufactured their storage system as part of this collaboration and acts as the resource aggregator, overseeing the facility's operations.

Following this launch, JA Mitsui Lease and PowerX are planning to develop additional energy storage sites in Tokoname City and Makinohara City, Shizuoka Prefecture, expected to start operation in early spring. These facilities will charge when power demand is low and discharge when demand surges, further contributing to the region's energy balance and promoting the use of renewable sources.

Both companies are committed to blending JA Mitsui Lease's experience in sales, financing, and various solutions with PowerX's advanced battery systems and energy services to forge a path towards a decarbonized society. The JA Mitsui Lease Group has outlined 'Business Model Evolution' as a key strategy in their mid-term management plan, 'Sustainable Evolution 2028,' positioning 'Energy Transition' as a vital growth sector. This initiative is part of their ongoing commitment to sustainable socio-economic practices and supporting the achievement of regional development and decarbonization.

The Geino-chō Hagino Storage facility has a rated storage capacity of 7.4 MWh, established with three units of the PowerX Mega Power 2700A battery system and boasts a PCS output of 1.99 MW. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant step in integrating energy storage solutions into the region's energy infrastructure.

Moreover, JMES BESS ONE LLC is focused on nurturing sustainable business practices that contribute to both the environment and community growth. Adopting innovative energy solutions, the company strives to align with global standards, including various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to foster a greener future.

As the partnership progresses, JA Mitsui Lease and PowerX will continue working together to redefine energy solutions in Japan, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of this transformative industry. Through collaboration and advancements in technology, the companies aim to provide reliable energy storage while supporting the expansion of renewable energy in the Chubu region and beyond.
