St. George's University Celebrates 818 Students Matching into U.S. Residencies

SGU Celebrates Residency Success

In a remarkable achievement, St. George's University (SGU) School of Medicine has announced that 818 students and graduates have successfully secured residency positions throughout the United States as part of the 2026 Match process. This year’s match has seen students placed in 23 specialties across 42 states and the District of Columbia, with more graduates anticipated to confirm placements shortly as the matching process continues.

Dr. Marios Loukas, President of SGU and Dean of the School of Medicine, expressed immense pride in the students' accomplishments, stating, "Match Day is a pivotal milestone at the start of a doctor’s career. On behalf of the entire SGU community, I congratulate this remarkable class of medical students on their success. We are proud to see them take the next step in their journey to serve patients and communities."

The secured residency positions span a wide variety of specialties, ranging from highly competitive fields such as surgery and neurology to vital primary care disciplines including pediatrics, emergency medicine, and family medicine. Many of these graduates are set to return to their home states and communities to initiate their medical careers, fulfilling the mission of SGU to serve diverse populations across the U.S. health system.

For over a decade, SGU has been a leading contributor of new physicians into the U.S. medical landscape. Approximately two-thirds of SGU graduates choose to enter primary care specialties, and a significant proportion of them practice in underserved regions, addressing pressing medical needs. Dr. Loukas noted, "St. George's University graduates have been meeting the medical needs of communities across the United States for decades. We look forward to the meaningful impact this newest class of SGU-trained physicians will make in the years ahead."
