Over 300 University of California Financial Analysts Join Teamsters
On March 21, 2025, Teamsters Local 2010 celebrated a major victory as the California state labor board confirmed union representation for 320 financial analysts at the University of California (UC). These workers had previously been incorrectly classified as nonunion employees by their employer.
Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 2010, expressed excitement over the union's growth, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome more than 300 financial analysts to our fast-growing union. Together, we have built the member power that has won strong contracts and unprecedented raises for our members and their families."
With this new addition, Teamsters Local 2010, which now represents over 17,500 UC administrative workers, has welcomed nearly 5,000 new members in just the last five years through a mechanism called accretion. This process allows unrepresented workers to join an existing bargaining unit, signifying the increasing strength and unity of the union. The California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) recognized that these analysts rightfully belong to Local 2010's Clerical and Allied Services (CX) unit.
The success of Teamsters Local 2010 is not just about numbers; it has translated into tangible benefits for its members. Previously, workers in the CX unit experienced five years without raises or a contract under their former representation. In contrast, since joining Teamsters, they have witnessed a remarkable revitalization. The current contract negotiations have led to the best contracts in history for the unit. By the time their existing contract expires later this year, members will have seen an astounding compounded 83% increase in pay since 2011.
Teamsters Local 2010 stands as a powerful representation of nearly 23,000 dedicated employees working in California's educational sector. This union is part of a larger framework, connected to the 1.3 million members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters across North America.
With labor representation becoming increasingly vital, the recent addition of these financial analysts is seen as a significant stride towards better workplace conditions and improved wages in the higher education sector. Teamsters Local 2010 is committed to advocating for the rights of its members, ensuring not only their voices are heard but also that they are adequately compensated for their essential roles.
As the union continues to grow, it remains focused on the future, reinforcing the importance of solidarity among workers in achieving their goals. This momentous decision by the labor board is reflected in the collective strength and resilience of the union, paving the way for greater advocacy and improved labor standards for all its members at the University of California.
