RoboParty Unveils RP1: An Open-Source Humanoid Platform for AI and Robotics Research

RoboParty Launches the RP1

On October 16, 2026, RoboParty officially introduced the RP1 (ROBOTO 01), marking a significant milestone in humanoid robotics. This high-performance and fully open-source platform is specifically designed for research in robotics and the development of integrated AI.

The RP1 sets itself apart by offering researchers unprecedented access to fundamental hardware and software components, combined with modular configurations. This flexibility enables users to delve deeply into the robot's operations, modify its systems, and tailor the platform to their project needs. RoboParty emphasizes that integrated AI should not rely on black-box technology; instead, it encourages researchers to explore various elements freely. By sharing engineering resources and developmental tools, the company aims to transform individual efforts into a collective foundation that others can scrutinize, enhance, and expand.

Comprehensive Open-Source Ecosystem

The RP1 ecosystem encompasses a variety of components, including mechanical structures, electronic framework, ROMOMO actuator technology, motion control systems, simulation tools, training programs, and deployment strategies. Comprehensive documentation connects the robot's physical construction with the software that activates algorithms into tangible actions. This transparency allows researchers to work outside of predefined interfaces. When discrepancies arise between expected algorithm outputs and physical behaviors, researchers can investigate hardware, control methods, and the underlying models.

Access to control interfaces and execution feedback ensures that teams can compare training results with physical experiments. This analytical capacity helps identify problems and refine approaches.

Tools for Movement and Learning

RoboParty Lab is currently developing PartyOS, which integrates movement control, reorientation, and learning tools. Higher-level capabilities, such as perception, interaction, and task execution, are expected to see further integration and validation, with rolling releases of additional software components under an open-source license.

Designed for Adaptive Research

The standard RP1 measures about 1.3 meters tall and features 24 active degrees of freedom, allowing for research in walking, balance, and transferring simulations to real-world environments. For more advanced applications, the RP1 Pro model includes 30 active degrees of freedom, which adds a two-axis neck and seven axes per arm, providing extensive configuration options for researching control policies, human-robot interaction, and data collection via integrated body systems.

These figures leave out the degrees of freedom from the right hand, which is equipped for manipulation experiments and model development. The robotics platform's modular head and wrist-mounted effectors, along with options for scalable computing, grant teams the capability to adapt the setup as research needs evolve.

Comparing Control Methods

Teams can test control methods on identical hardware or maintain a specific method while investigating hardware changes. Robot models, software configurations, and experiment logs allow researchers to document and trace differences, thereby supporting repeated tests under controlled conditions. This system provides a baseline for addressing various research questions while ensuring visibility over changes and testing conditions.

However, each configuration necessitates suitable models, control parameters, and suitable validation processes tailored to each intended task.
