Chloris Geospatial Secures $8.5 Million in Series A Funding for Revolutionary Satellite Technology

Chloris Geospatial Raises $8.5 Million in Series A Funding

Chloris Geospatial, a pioneering climate-tech company renowned for its satellite-based methods of measuring forest carbon and tracking ecosystem changes, announced today that it has successfully secured $8.5 million in Series A funding. The funding round was primarily led by Future Energy Ventures, with significant contributions from existing investors such as AXA IM Alts, At One Ventures, Cisco Foundation, Counteract, and Orbia Ventures.

With the newly acquired capital, Chloris is set to enhance product development and expand its commercial and technical teams. Furthermore, the funds will facilitate deeper partnerships focusing on corporate carbon accounting related to forest risk commodities and the carbon value chain. This strategic move is essential to meet the growing market's demand for verifiable and high-quality nature-based solutions. In addition, the company plans to establish a new hub in Europe to support regional expansion and improved customer engagement.

This investment comes at a critical time for both the climate and nature agendas, where issues of trust, transparency, and scalable solutions are emerging as pressing needs. Although the challenges concerning climate change are widespread, local action from governments, project developers, investors, and supply chain actors is vital. Aligning these local efforts with global ambitions necessitates scientifically rigorous and operationally viable solutions at all levels.

Chloris Geospatial’s technology addresses this imperative by offering transparent, science-based insights necessary for effective decision-making. Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer, Dr. Alessandro Baccini, has overseen the development of a technology that utilizes satellite data along with proprietary sensor fusion and machine learning techniques to measure vegetation more accurately than conventional land cover mapping. The insights provided by Chloris span across every acre of forest worldwide, delivering timely and reliable data since the year 2000.

Marco Albani, CEO and Co-Founder of Chloris Geospatial, expressed, "This is a decisive moment. To protect and restore nature at the pace the climate demands, we need tools that empower confident decision-making. This investment enables us to elevate our abilities further. We are excited about the support from Future Energy Ventures and appreciative of the ongoing belief in our mission from all our investors."

The significance of forests as critical carbon sinks, biodiversity reservoirs, and socio-economic assets cannot be overstated, especially as record-breaking wildfires and declining biomass trends underscore the urgent need for action. Chloris's data has revealed escalating losses in forest carbon, thus signifying the need for enhanced investment in nature. However, effectively reversing this trend will hinge largely on our competency in accurately assessing biomass dynamics consistently.

Patrick Elftmann, Managing Partner at Future Energy Ventures, noted, "We invested in Chloris Geospatial because we recognize their technology as the critical element needed to restore trust and unlock growth in carbon markets while significantly enhancing accounting standards. The capability to independently, transparently, and affordably measure carbon dynamics across global woody vegetation signifies a transformative shift in monitoring and accountability for nature-based climate solutions."

Organizations in both voluntary carbon markets and corporate supply chains are increasingly leveraging satellite-derived information to evaluate, invest in, and oversee forest carbon projects, ensuring compliance with standards such as the GHG Protocol.

Adam Gibbon, Natural Capital Lead at AXA IM Alts added, "Investing in solutions that protect, restore, and sustainably manage natural capital is fundamental to our mission. Our ongoing support for Chloris is indicative of our belief that scalable and science-driven measurement is indispensable for driving integrity and impact in carbon markets and corporate climate strategies."

Chloris's clientele encompasses leading corporations dedicated to monitoring forest-risk supply chains while making informed decisions aligned with their climate-related objectives and carbon accounting standards. Many organizations depend on Chloris to provide precise assessments of forest carbon dynamics, integrating transparent and science-driven data into their climate reports.
