California Waste Solutions Enhances Environmental Technology in Vietnam with UAVs for Waste Management

California Waste Solutions Enhances Environmental Practices in Vietnam

California Waste Solutions (CWS), based in Oakland, is taking a significant leap in environmental management by deploying advanced aerial technology in Vietnam. Through its subsidiary, Vietnam Waste Solutions (VWS), the company plans to incorporate industrial drones at the Da Phuoc Integrated Waste Management Facility in Ho Chi Minh City. This initiative is set to launch in October 2026, subject to necessary flight permits and operator certifications.

The deployment of these drones marks a pioneering step in Vietnam's waste treatment operation. Designed for aerial spraying, these unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will facilitate effective odor control and disinfection across various zones of the waste management facility. The UAVs are capable of carrying up to 10 liters of treatment solution and can operate for around 15 minutes per flight, significantly boosting operational efficiency.

Revolutionizing Waste Management

The Da Phuoc facility, which handles an enormous amount of municipal solid waste—around 10,000 tons daily—will be the first site in Vietnam to utilize such technology on a large scale. According to David Duong, Founder and Owner of California Waste Solutions, the introduction of these drones not only benefits the local environment but also ensures improved working conditions for employees by reducing their exposure to hazardous materials.

The UAVs will autonomously spray biological treatment products over active waste-receiving areas, ensuring odors are neutralized and surfaces disinfected before contaminants can spread. This move is part of a more extensive modernization initiative aiming to enhance environmental services in alignment with national policies that advocate for the integration of advanced technology in waste management practices.

Commitments to Safety and Efficiency

In preparation for the program, VWS has conducted numerous trials to evaluate the financial viability, coverage quality, and overall improvements in environmental handling at Da Phuoc. Feedback has shown that tasks typically requiring multiple human operators can be efficiently completed by a single UAV, thus optimizing labor resources and enhancing safety measures.

Safety remains a top priority, with all drone operations designed to meet local regulations concerning airspace and safety protocols for active waste facilities. Automated flight mapping will ensure precise coverage, minimizing the chances of human error while enhancing the speed of operation—allowing treatments of up to 50 to 70 times faster than conventional manual methods.

Company President Michael Duong noted that this initiative continues a legacy of leadership in environmental technology that CWS has maintained since its inception. With the introduction of UAVs, VWS is setting a new standard in Vietnam's waste management landscape, with potential for significant ecological benefits.

Local Government Support

The local government has reacted positively to the UAV initiative, recognizing its potential for improving urban environmental controls, especially in a city like Ho Chi Minh, which has been actively working on odor control and waste management improvement.

Employees are expected to benefit significantly from this new technology. Not only does it enhance labor productivity by reducing the number of workers needed for hazardous tasks, but it also diminishes their exposure to harmful chemicals—a crucial aspect considering the health implications associated with waste management roles.

Overview of UAV Specifications

The adopted UAV model is the DJI Agras T100, designed specifically for high-volume spraying. Key specifications include:
  • - Payload Capacity: Up to 100 liters
  • - Spraying Rate: 40 liters per minute
  • - Operational Flight Speed: 20 m/s
  • - Effective Coverage: Approximately 10 to 18 hectares per hour, depending on various factors.

This innovative approach exemplifies how environmental protection can benefit from modern technology while ensuring the safety and well-being of workers. Once all permits are in place, the first flights will demonstrate the viability and effectiveness of these drones in promoting a cleaner, healthier environment for Ho Chi Minh City.
