The Rising Issue of Illegal Jobs

In recent years, Japan has seen a surge in illegal job recruitment, particularly targeting teenagers. Reports indicate that in 2024, the amount of special fraud crime reached a record high of 721 billion yen, with nearly 80% of arrests involving individuals in their teens and twenties. Alarmingly, there have been instances of middle school students being apprehended, highlighting the increasing risk of young people being unwittingly drawn into criminal activities. According to research by Dip Corporation, approximately 80% of high school students struggle to identify dangerous job listings.

The Need for Effective Anti-Illegal Job Measures

As illegal job schemes become more sophisticated, quick and effective countermeasures are essential. Current educational materials do not often reflect the latest methods used by recruiters. Consequently, responsibility for educating students often falls to individual schools and teachers, resulting in added strain. Traditional classroom instruction has proven insufficient in enabling students to perceive these threats as personal, hindering proactive behavioral change.

In response, Classroom Adventure has developed the engaging game-based educational program "Ray's Disappearance", enabling students to grasp the risks associated with illegal jobs through immersive experience, thus facilitating reduced educational burdens and enhancing learning outcomes.

Why Summer Events are Crucial

Summer break provides students with more free time, resulting in increased social media interactions and job-hunting activities. This period also makes it easier for illegal job schemes to reach young people unbeknownst to their teachers. Thus, it is imperative for educators and local government officials to familiarize themselves with current trends to foster protective measures for students. Classroom Adventure’s event aims to bridge this gap by providing first-hand experience of “Ray's Disappearance” and educating attendees on the implications of illegal jobs and youth social media engagement.

A New Educational Approach: Learning through Experience

“Ray's Disappearance” invites participants into a meticulously recreated social media environment, where they follow the story of a friend named Ray who becomes ensnared by illegal job offers. Participants navigate through scenarios that challenge them to engage critically and responsibly with real-world issues.

The program focuses on developing three key skills:
1. Avoiding Being Targeted: Understanding the characteristics of individuals who are often targeted and reassessing personal information sharing.
2. Spotting Deception: Acquiring literacy to discern the latest recruitment tactics and jargon used by illegal operators.
3. Escaping Entrapment: Learning about the dynamics that keep individuals involved in criminal groups and strategies to protect oneself and peers.

The program has already received substantial acclaim, with 96% of participants reporting an enhanced understanding of illegal job threats. Emphasizing gamification, “Ray's Disappearance” demonstrates significant educational effectiveness.
