Mowilex Takes a Bold Step Towards Sustainability with New Solar Panels at Cikande Factory

Mowilex Expands Commitment to Renewable Energy

Mowilex, a leading Indonesian paint manufacturer, is taking significant strides towards sustainability with the installation of solar panels at its Cikande factory. This initiative marks a pivotal step in the company's long-standing dedication to renewable energy and reducing its environmental impact. By harnessing the power of the sun, Mowilex aims to decarbonize its production process, ultimately making one in every four liters of its paint with renewable energy.

The installation of over 500 solar modules on the factory roof, coupled with 252 additional panels on parking canopies, is set to generate substantial electricity. This system is expected to cut the factory's electricity usage from the grid by approximately 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) each year. In doing so, Mowilex is expected to reduce its non-renewable energy consumption by up to 25%, thereby significantly lowering its operational carbon footprint.

Mowilex’s commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by the company's achievement of the CarbonNeutral® company certification for the sixth consecutive year in 2024. This latest renewable energy project not only supports Mowilex’s ongoing environmental initiatives but also aligns with Indonesia's broader clean energy goals, demonstrating the company’s leadership in promoting environmental responsibility within the industry.

Niko Safavi, CEO of PT Mowilex Indonesia, emphasized the importance of tangible actions in combating climate change. He stated, “We believe in taking real action to decarbonize. This solar installation at our Cikande factory goes beyond buying offsets; it's a reflection of our core values. This initiative brings us one step closer to a cleaner future for Indonesia.”

By investing in solar energy, Mowilex is actively working to reduce its dependence on brown energy – energy derived from fossil fuels notorious for their high emissions and detrimental environmental effects. In contrast, the shift to green energy represents a commitment to adopting a cleaner, more sustainable energy model that benefits both the company and the environment.

This development is particularly timely, as recent studies highlight that 87% of Indonesians are worried about climate change. Furthermore, more than 90% feel that businesses do not engage sufficiently in climate issues, which underscores the urgent need for corporate responsibility in addressing environmental challenges. Coinciding with these consumer concerns, Mowilex recognizes the shift in purchasing patterns towards brands that actively mitigate climate impacts.

Safavi noted, “We see consumers shifting their purchasing power towards brands that actively work to mitigate climate change. Mowilex is proud to meet those market expectations,” further indicating that the solar energy initiative is also a strategic move to cater to the evolving expectations of environmentally-conscious consumers.

The reliability of solar energy not only contributes to Mowilex's energy security but also bolsters Indonesia's renewable energy policies. By making such a long-term investment, Mowilex hopes to serve as an exemplary model for other companies in the industry, as well as for the general public.
