Hampton University's 43rd Annual Conference on the Black Family: Championing Legacy and Economic Power

Hampton University, renowned for its commitment to excellence, is set to host the 43rd Annual Conference on the Black Family from March 19 to 21, 2025. This significant event, organized by the National Center for Black Family Life in collaboration with the School of Liberal Arts and Education, invites scholars, policymakers, and community leaders to engage in discussions centered around the theme: "From Chaos to Community: Elevating Black Families – Actualizing the Vision of the Beloved Community."

For more than 40 years, this conference has served as a pivotal platform for exploring the complexities and strengths of Black family life. Its influence extends across national dialogues, shaping progressive thoughts around resilience and community empowerment. The 2025 conference promises an enlightening program, showcasing powerful plenary sessions, interactive panel discussions, and engaging workshops.

The focal points of this year's conference include:
- Wealth Building and Financial Literacy: Providing strategies for homeownership, investing, and entrepreneurship tailored to Black communities.
- Faith and Family: An exploration of how spirituality and mental health intersect to support family stability.
- Educational Access and Achievement: Discussing methods for overcoming systemic barriers to ensure student success and increased educational access.
- Black Fatherhood and Positive Male Influence: Highlighting the vital role of Black fathers and male role models in establishing strong family dynamics.
- Health Disparities and Family Well-Being: Addressing significant concerns regarding maternal health, mental wellness, and healthcare equity.

One of the conference's standout moments will honor notable figures, RaaShaun "DJ Envy" and Gia Casey, recognized for their influential work in mental health advocacy and financial literacy. Their initiatives in real estate investment education have been monumental in motivating families to pursue generational wealth and combat cycles of financial instability.

According to Hampton University President Darrell K. Williams, "The Annual Conference on the Black Family embodies our enduring commitment to fostering research, advocacy, and initiatives that uplift Black families. In light of today’s economic challenges, our focus on legacy and empowerment is more relevant than ever."

The event will feature keynote speakers, including:
- Trustee Derek Lewis: A former executive at PepsiCo and a respected advocate for education and economic mobility in Black communities, also the author of "Survive and Thrive."
- Rev. Dr. DeForest Soaries: A nationally acknowledged faith leader and ex-New Jersey Secretary of State, recognized for his contributions to financial empowerment and community development.

As the conference gears up for its 43rd installment, Dr. Linda Malone-Colon, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education, iterated, "This conference continuously adapts to address both the challenges and opportunities faced by Black families.
