Introducing the FDE Certification: A New Standard for AI Implementation Skills in the Workplace

FDE Certification Framework: Raising Standards for AI Skill Assessment

As the era of Generative AI and AI agents unfolds, organizations face the challenge of effectively transforming their operations. Simply being able to use AI tools is no longer enough; businesses need professionals who can drive meaningful change through AI implementation. To help bridge this gap, the FDE Certification Project, developed by the IoT Certification Committee, has officially launched a new standard for assessing skills required in the workplace with the introduction of the FDE Level 1 Exam.

Background and Necessity of the FDE Certification

The rapid expansion of AI capabilities has made it crucial for employees to not only understand the technology but also apply it proficiently in real-world scenarios. As AI technologies become ubiquitous, organizations are seeking individuals who can facilitate dialogue between various stakeholders, redesign workflows around AI, and implement solutions that drive measurable results. This reality led to the establishment of the Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) certification, aimed at equipping professionals with the necessary competencies to excel in the AI-driven landscape.

In this context, the Level 1 Exam was designed to serve as an entry-level assessment that evaluates foundational knowledge and transformation skills, helping organizations identify individuals who can connect the dots between AI technology, business processes, and stakeholder collaboration.

Overview of the FDE Certification Structure

The FDE certification consists of three levels:

  • - Level 1 (FDE Exam): Focuses on assessing knowledge and application skills relevant to the role of an FDE.
  • - Level 2 (FDE Accreditation): Evaluates the ability to implement AI solutions effectively in a business context.
  • - Level 3 (FDE Certification): Measures actual performance results produced through AI integration in operations.

Detailed Insights into the FDE Level 1 Skill Map

The FDE Level 1 Exam is designed for individuals who can connect operational, managerial, and technical aspects of businesses. Candidates will be evaluated on their understanding of AI technologies, their ability to facilitate communication among stakeholders, and their mindset towards transformation. Key evaluation areas include:

1. Introduction to FDE
2. Basics of AI and Language Models
3. Business Understanding
4. Effective Communication
5. Mindset for Change
6. Education and Leadership Skills
7. AI-Driven Thinking
8. Understanding Data
9. Comprehension of AI Agents
10. Ethics and Security

This broad evaluation framework emphasizes a comprehensive skill set necessary for advancing workplace transformation in the age of AI, focusing not just on technical proficiency but also on strategic thinking, ethical considerations, and effective communication.

Upcoming Beta Test Launch

To validate the exam's content, difficulty, grading criteria, and overall operational effectiveness, a beta test will soon be conducted. Scheduled for mid-September, this initiative will target approximately 100 individuals, including IoT certification holders and interested parties. The beta test will offer crucial insights into:
  • - Individual understanding levels
  • - Trends in responses to specific questions
  • - Criteria setting for pass/fail lines based on test results
  • - Feedback for enhancing both content and examination procedures

Participants in the beta test will benefit from a reduced fee, and those meeting a predetermined benchmark will be awarded a beta test pass certificate, although this certification is distinct from the official exam certification.

Trademark Registration Progress

To solidify the framework's credibility and identity, the project has filed for trademark registration on the following terms: FDE Certification, FDE Accreditation, and FDE Certification. This is aimed at further establishing the project's legitimacy and addressing stakeholders' trust in the certification process.

Statement from the FDE Project Office

In a landscape increasingly shaped by AI technologies, the need for professionals who can not only utilize AI but also apply it to orchestrate operational change is more pertinent than ever. The FDE Level 1 Exam seeks to identify such individuals by measuring their foundational skills in business understanding, stakeholder communication, and change management. Our ongoing efforts include skill map development, as well as rigorous testing procedures to foster a certification program rooted in practical application.
