About Taisho University
Taisho University is operated by four religious sects: Tendai, Shingon (Hōbō faction), Shingon (Chizan faction), Jodo, and Jisu. The university’s foundational philosophy is “Practice of Wisdom and Compassion,” established in 1926. This principle embodies the concept of a Bodhisattva, a person dedicated to their own training while striving for the salvation of others.
The philosophy encourages students not just during their time at Taisho University but throughout their lives to embody the spirit of the Bodhisattva—engaging in personal development while wishing for the happiness of others. This goal is reflected in the university's educational vision, which promotes four guiding principles grounded in Buddhist values: Compassion, Self-Lighting, Middle Way, and Coexistence.
