Promoting Financial Literacy Through Workshops for Students in Okayama City

Financial Literacy Workshops for Students

In a collaborative effort between the Japan Financial Education Support Organization and IPU International University, a unique financial education workshop titled "Path to the 4th FES Contest in Okayama City" is set to take place. The workshop aims to broaden the financial literacy of junior and senior high school students, laying the groundwork for informed financial decisions in the future.

This initiative embodies the Japan Financial Education Support Organization's mission to expand individuals’ choices through financial education. By integrating IPU International University's focus on practical education aimed at resolving local issues, this workshop seeks to create a new educational model within the community.

Workshop Objectives

The workshops will occur at the IPU Okayama Station Global Campus, bringing together university students, high schoolers, and local residents in a cooperative and engaging learning environment. Participants will have the opportunity to create financial educational videos for the FES Contest®—an initiative designed to empower students to explore financial concepts creatively.

The event is made possible by the hard work of Junichi Oike, an associate professor at IPU International University and an ambassador for the Japan Financial Education Support Organization. Professor Oike specializes in commercial education and collaborative community efforts, focusing on product development and regional revitalization.

Creating Innovative Learning Models

The workshop aims to connect local youth with educational resources and opportunities. By utilizing the concept of "connection," the event will take place in a vibrant and accessible space that fosters collaboration among students and the community.

High school participants will engage in thought-provoking discussions about money and develop their content for submissions to the FES Contest®. This experiential program encourages students to take an active role in their learning by sharing their newly acquired knowledge with others, rather than remaining passive recipients of information.

University students from Professor Oike's seminar will assist high schoolers in group activities and video production. This mentorship allows for intergenerational sharing of knowledge, creating a beneficial cycle of learning and collaboration within the community.

Details of the Aimed FES Contest®

Endorsed by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Financial Services Agency, and consumer advocacy groups, this contest has gained significant recognition for its role in promoting financial literacy among youth.

The related workshops from the FES contest have garnered accolades and awards, including the Grand Prix from the Mitsubishi Future Development Foundation for their innovative educational programs aimed at engaging young learners.
