New E-Learning Courses: Supporting Parents Balancing Work and Family
In response to the increasing challenges faced by working parents, Japan Management Association Management Center (JMAM) is set to launch two new e-learning courses starting in July 2026. These courses, titled
"Health Management®21: Balancing Parenting and Work" and
"Self-Check 21: Support for Parenting and Work Balance", are designed to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge to help employees navigate the complexities of managing their professional and personal lives.
The Rationale Behind the Development
In recent years, the rise in dual-income households has made the struggle to balance childcare and work a common concern for many professionals. As noted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' labor force survey, the number of dual-income families is projected to reach 13 million by 2024, significantly higher than that of stay-at-home mothers. Unfortunately, a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare reveals that over 70% of the younger generation expresses anxiety regarding their ability to balance work and family responsibilities. Clearly, there is a growing need for companies to provide effective support in this area.
Additionally, with the phased implementation of the revised
Childcare and Family Care Leave Law starting in April 2025, companies will be expected to enhance their policies surrounding flexible working arrangements for those raising children. This creates an urgent need for educational and awareness training to empower employees to understand and effectively utilize these support systems.
The newly launched courses delve deep into understanding the policies surrounding work-life balance and the challenges that employees may face during various stages of their children's growth. They are designed to alleviate individual anxieties and foster an atmosphere of mutual understanding within the workplace, ultimately enhancing the company's ability to operationalize effective support systems for working parents.
