Unveiling Leadership Through Personal Journeys
Riki Osumi, the representative director of the public interest incorporated association
Hope & Wish, is set to speak at a highly anticipated seminar titled "The Answers We Sought Are Within the Paths We've Walked: Genuine Leadership Seminar Using the 100-Year Calendar". This event, organized by the Sokoriki Educational Research Institute, aims to provide a reflective platform for leaders and families, particularly those facing the challenges of serious illnesses.
The central theme of Osumi's message revolves around the notion that one's true role does not exist outside but is deeply rooted in the path one has walked. Throughout his 17 years of dedication to supporting children with serious illnesses and their families, Osumi has continually posed a fundamental question:
"When individuals recognize their mission, they can truly live".
This conviction was birthed from years of experience within
Hope & Wish and two decades in human resource development at Tokyo Disneyland. He emphasizes that both leaders and families grappling with illnesses face the same essential inquiry:
“What is my purpose here?”.
During the seminar, attendees will explore the concept of self-understanding through real-life applications of the bestselling book,
“The 100-Year Calendar: How to Live a Life with No Regrets” published by Discover Twenty One. Participants will be encouraged to take a step back and view their experiences and struggles as genuine questions that elevate their journey. This seminar is not a venue for received answers; instead, it invites individuals to delve within and discover their authentic questions.
Osumi's Personal Reflections
In Osumi's own words,
"For 17 years, I have walked alongside children suffering from serious illnesses and their families. Through dialogues with tens of thousands and in-depth conversations with over 300 families, I became convinced of one truth.
His insights deepened dramatically after a life-altering experience during a business trip to Sendai, where he unexpectedly collapsed, leading to a three-month hospitalization and six months of rehabilitation. This time prompted him to reflect on his own existence, marking a pivotal moment at the age of 60.
As he noted, the swift advancement of technology—ranging from the internet and smartphones to social media and AI—has undeniably made life more convenient, yet this comfort often unwittingly strips away the inherent power and meaning unique to humanity.
In this atmosphere filled with technological advancement, both business leaders and families face the profound question that defines our existence:
“Why am I here?” Osumi passionately argues that
the answer lies not in the external world but within the paths we've already traveled. He stresses the importance of reframing our focus from seeking answers to asking the right questions, igniting the human potentiality—referred to as
Sokoriki—that is present within us all. Through the lens of a 100-year timeline, he intends to guide participants to the moment where authentic inquiries arise from within.
