Creating a Supportive Environment for Early Childhood Education at National Ayumi Nursery

Cultivating a Positive Learning Environment at National Ayumi Nursery

National Ayumi Nursery, operated by the Ayumi Association, has actively undertaken staff training to enhance the quality of care and foster a supportive workplace. This initiative includes a focus on preventing inappropriate care and safeguarding the mental health of caregivers. On August 19, 2026, the nursery held its second workshop on "Preventing Inappropriate Care and Mental Health Training." The theme this time was "Creating a High-Quality Care Environment and Brain Rest Strategies."

Fostering a Constructive Care Environment

The workshop encouraged participants to reflect on how to create an environment devoid of prohibitive discipline. It aimed to shift the perception of inappropriate care from being solely a personal characteristic of the caregiver to recognizing broader environmental factors at play. This means assessing daily care conditions and finding solutions that alleviate the need for conflicts.

During this session, participants engaged in discussions on physical environments that may obscure visibility, such as blind spots and narrow pathways that lead to unnecessary stress and frustration for both children and caregivers.

The workshop was not just limited to internal discussions but also welcomed caregivers from neighboring nurseries, marking a step towards collaborative learning within the community.

Engaging Activities

Icebreaker activities were employed to foster relaxed interactions among participants, allowing them to share laughter and engage in discussions, enhancing the overall learning atmosphere. The attendees participated in a game that involved building height using only materials found at the venue, encouraging teamwork and brainstorming on strategic stacking.

Shifting Perspectives on Care Environments

A critical point discussed was, "What places or situations in our nursery often lead to reprimanding children?" This question prompted deeper consideration of childcare practices and encouraged groups to explore whether many issues could be resolved by simply changing the environmental setup rather than immediate disciplinary actions.

Nurturing Mental Well-being

In the latter part of the training, the focus shifted to mental health and how to combat "fatigue that lingers even after breaks." Caregivers frequently juggle multiple tasks, such as ensuring children's safety while managing various aspects like interactions with parents and classroom management. This dynamic can lead to mental exhaustion thereby necessitating strategies for mental relaxation after a busy day.

The workshop presented methods to consciously disconnect from work thoughts to allow for necessary mental rest, an essential topic for caregivers whose roles are continuously demanding.

Embracing Imperfection

One of the workshop objectives was to focus on letting go of perfectionism, promoting a mindset of enjoying "60-point care." It highlighted the significance of self-compassion and the idea that childcare does not require flawless execution every time. Group discussions illustrated how caregivers could destress while still reflecting on their practices.

Continuous Improvement

The training underscored that preventing inappropriate care and maintaining mental wellness is an ongoing journey, not a one-time event. The insights drew from ongoing dialogues, reinforcing the importance of reflective practice and collaboration within environments that support both children and caregivers alike.

As the training concluded, participants expressed their eagerness for future sessions, understanding that developing a positive learning environment for children is intrinsically linked to the psychological well-being of the caregivers themselves.

Future Training Sessions

The next workshop is scheduled for October 16, 2026, with subsequent sessions on November 12, 2026. Local caregivers interested in deepening their knowledge in preventing inappropriate care and enhancing mental well-being are highly encouraged to attend. This progressive training approach reflects a commitment to improving educational practices for the enrichment of children’s development.
