Johnson Controls Holds Networking Event for Female Field Engineers

Johnson Controls Hosts 'Women in the Field' Networking Event

On September 1, 2023, Johnson Controls, a leading provider of building solutions committed to creating smart and sustainable buildings, held a networking event named 'Women in the Field' at its headquarters in Sasazuka. This initiative was organized by the company's employee-led Business Resource Group (BRG) known as the Women’s Network and aimed to respond to calls from employees for a supportive networking platform.

The event saw participation from 50 female field engineers from across Japan, providing an opportunity for discussions on pressing issues and personal experiences related to their careers. Key topics included balancing demanding engineering roles with significant life events such as marriage and childbirth, alongside women-specific concerns regarding sanitary conditions in workplace facilities.

The participants engaged in an enlightening roundtable discussion featuring three experienced female engineers who shared insights from their own journeys through marriage and maternity leave. Attendees commented on how the sharing of personal stories helped them visualize their futures and eased their feelings of uncertainty associated with various life stages. One participant expressed, 'Hearing real experiences enabled me to form a concrete picture of what my future could look like,' while another remarked, 'My vague anxieties regarding life stage changes have lightened immensely.'

In addition to these discussions, the event included workshops to help attendees organize their career paths and life plans. Participants also had the unique opportunity to address candid questions and suggestions directly to the company president and HR manager. This format was particularly beneficial for engineers, who usually work on-site, as it fostered a strong sense of community and support among attendees.

The newly formed connections created throughout the half-day event are expected to provide ongoing support for the participants' careers and professional growth. The commitment of Johnson Controls to foster a diverse and inclusive corporate culture is evident through initiatives like the 'Women in the Field' event. The company aims to ensure that every employee can work in a safe and supportive environment.
