Monster Energy Athletes Shine on Day 1 of X Games Salt Lake City 2025

The Summer X Games have officially kicked off in Salt Lake City, and it was a remarkable start for the Monster Energy team. On June 28, 2025, the athletes showcased their skills, capturing a total of four medals, including one gold, two silver, and one bronze, across various thrilling competitions at the Utah State Fairpark and Event Center.

The highlight of this day came from BMX athlete Jordan Godwin, 29, who clinched gold in the BMX Street final. Godwin, originally from Cardiff, Wales, proved his mettle against a group of elite competitors. His victory was well-deserved as he delivered a flawless technical run, earning an impressive score of 89.33 points. This victory marks his career-first gold medal and adds to his previous bronze win at the X Games Osaka just a week earlier. He expressed his excitement, saying, "I don't know how it happened, but being on the podium these past two weeks is insane! It's nice that the more technical riding and less flashy riding gets some love. I really appreciate it." With this gold medal, Godwin now holds three X Games medals—one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

In the Women’s Skateboard Park final, young prodigy Cocona Hiraki, at just 16 years old, took home the silver medal with her incredible performance. Hailing from Hokkaido, Japan, Hiraki completed a perfect run that captivated the crowd and judges alike. Her combination of tricks, including a frontside ollie and a kickflip Indy, scored her 83.66 points, cementing her position among the elite in women's skateboarding. This achievement adds to her remarkable record of five X Games medals, including one gold, three silvers, and one bronze.

The end of Day 1 was marked by the thrilling Moto X Best Trick contest, where Tom Richards, a 22-year-old rookie from Wagga Wagga, Australia, earned a silver medal in his X Games debut. Tom's first attempt featured an astonishing body varial, a superman seat grab into an Indy air, scored 93.00 points. His older brother, 24-year-old Ben Richards, also made his mark by winning bronze with a score of 91.33 points for his signature Special Flip, which saw him 360 body varial while airborne. This showcases the incredible talent present at the X Games and the dynamic of the Richards brothers, who are trained by renowned rider Jackson Strong.

The Summer X Games is in its 74th iteration and has brought together over 100 athletes from around the world to compete for a total of 52 medals across 14 events spanning BMX, Moto X, and skateboarding disciplines.

As the X Games continue through June 29, fans can expect more exhilarating performances and potential for additional medals for the Monster Energy team. Stay tuned as the competition unfolds!
