Reju and Cibutex Join Forces to Create a Circular Textile Ecosystem

Reju and Cibutex Partner for Circular Textile Ecosystem

In a significant move towards sustainability, Reju™, a pioneer in progressive textile regeneration, has teamed up with Cibutex, a cooperative dedicated to establishing a more sustainable textile supply chain. Announced on February 4, 2025, this partnership aims to create a robust ecosystem among Cibutex's member companies, enhancing their collective ability to recycle and repurpose textile waste.

Reju will be leveraging secondary raw materials derived from post-consumer textile waste, providing a valuable input for the production of Reju Polyester™, which boasts a 50% lower carbon footprint compared to virgin polyester. This innovative approach allows for the infinite regeneration of materials, promoting a circular economy within the textile industry.

The Circular Economy Initiative

With the focus on environmental responsibility, this collaboration addresses the textile waste issue systematically. The partnership will see the processing of materials from Cibutex member companies at Reju's upcoming Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Germany, set to commence operations in 2025. This hub will be the cornerstone of Reju's global infrastructure targeted at large-scale textile waste regeneration.

Cibutex’s mission aligns with Reju’s by not only collecting and processing post-use commercial textiles but also ensuring these materials can be reintroduced into the production cycle. Tackling the challenges of post-use textiles will not only ensure valuable resources are diverted from landfills and incinerators but also significantly reduces the industry's overall carbon footprint.

Insights from Leadership

Patrik Frisk, the CEO of Reju, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, "Reju and Cibutex are joining forces to lead the change in creating a circular ecosystem for the business textile sector. Our distinct approach to mobilizing member companies resonates perfectly with Reju's mission to regenerate textiles on a large scale." This partnership embodies their commitment to building a sustainable infrastructure capable of addressing the complex challenge of textile waste efficiently.

Jan Lamme, the CEO of Cibutex, added, "Our cooperative is grounded in the principle of promoting a circular textile economy. Partnering with Reju enhances our ability to return used textiles to the production cycle, achieving the traceability and quality vital for a sustainable future. This cooperation marks a significant step towards realizing our vision of a closed-loop supply chain in the textile service sector."

An Urgent Response to Regulatory Pressures

The initiative is timely, coinciding with the European Union's mandate for textile waste collection slated to take effect this year. With similar regulatory frameworks emerging in the United States, these efforts from Reju and Cibutex ensure that scalable solutions are in place to meet the evolving legislative demands while driving towards a more sustainable textile industry.

About Cibutex and Reju

Founded in March 2022 in the Netherlands, Cibutex is established by leading textile services like Blycolin Textile Services and aims to enhance circularity within textile supply chains across Europe. Through collaboration, the cooperative pools resources and expertise to advocate for sustainable textile solutions.

Reju is focused on innovating regeneration technologies for polyester and PET waste. With backing from Technip Energies and leveraging technology derived from IBM's research, Reju strives to establish a global ecosystem for textile recycling, tackling the entrenched issues revolving around PET in the textile market.
