Board & Beyond, a new organization set to launch in October 2025, is determined to make the dream of uniting family well-being with career aspirations a reality.

The Challenges Faced by Accompanying Partners

When families relocate internationally, especially in corporate assignments, one significant challenge arises: often, the partner accompanying the expatriate is forced to pause or abandon their own career. This can lead to identity loss and mental health issues, resulting in feelings of isolation for both the individual and their family. As more companies recognize the potential of accompanying partners and the need for support from a well-being and risk management perspective, efforts have been made to address these challenges, but many families still find the resources lacking.

Board & Beyond aims to highlight the challenges associated with expatriate structures and the issues that arise, rather than simply viewing them as personal choices or family issues. By acting as a bridge between expatriate families and corporate sponsors, the organization strives to promote a future where families can thrive together without sacrificing their career aspirations.

Initiatives Taken So Far

Since well before its official establishment, Board & Beyond has explored various avenues to address the career gaps experienced by accompanying partners. In January 2026, the organization will begin hosting monthly free webinars aimed at HR professionals and expatriate families to foster discussions and share insights on this pressing issue.

Future Directions

While most of the current initiatives focus on business-to-business solutions, Board & Beyond recognizes the need for direct engagement with the accompanying partners who yearn for connection and value, no matter the challenging environment they may face. Plans are underway to develop services tailored specifically for expatriate families and individuals.

Our aim is to provide opportunities for learning and developing skills that will benefit them beyond their expatriate assignments. By emphasizing family well-being as a foundational element of career development, we envision a future where individuals never have to give up their dreams or careers, regardless of the life stage they are in.
