Mitsui Garden Hotels Redefines Sustainable Stay Standards for Guest Comfort

Mitsui Garden Hotels Reinvents Sustainability for Guest Comfort

Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management Co., headquartered in Chuo, Tokyo, is taking bold steps towards sustainability. Starting April 1, 2026, the company will implement revised cleaning standards for guest rooms at its 32 domestic Mitsui Garden Hotels. This initiative aims to further reduce environmental impact while ensuring a comfortable stay, a cornerstone of the company’s vision for a sustainable experience in harmony with nature, people, and communities.

Updated Cleaning Standards for Extended Stays

The updated cleaning protocol introduces a significant change: bed linen will now be swapped every three days instead of daily. This strategic adjustment is in line with the company’s ongoing commitment to conserving water resources and reducing CO₂ emissions. For guests staying at the hotels, the new linen replacement schedule will be on the fourth night of stay. Of course, guests who wish to have their sheets changed more frequently can request so by placing a “Sheet Change Request Card” on their bed.

Daily cleaning services such as making the bed, exchanging towels, and taking out trash will remain unchanged, ensuring that guests enjoy a pristine environment throughout their stay.

Commitment to Sustainability

Mitsui Garden Hotels is not just focused on redefined cleaning protocols, but also on various sustainability efforts. These include:

Eco-Friendly Amenities

The hotel chain is transitioning to eco-conscious materials for some of its amenities, like toothbrushes and hairbrushes, opting for natural-based biomass plastics or paper packaging. Additionally, water-based inks are used for printing, reducing plastic use and enhancing environmental responsibility.

Green Electricity Utilization

Aiming for radical reductions in carbon emissions, all Mitsui Garden Hotels have converted to using “green” electricity—effectively achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions. By utilizing non-fossil certificates and promoting renewable energy usage, the company is vigorously supporting the transition to a decarbonized society.

Reducing Food Waste

In a bid to minimize food waste, the hotels continuously monitor buffet leftovers to ensure food quantities are appropriate. By partnering with the food sharing service “TABETE,” they facilitate the redistribution of unsold food items to those in need, promoting sustainable dining practices.

Mitsui Fudosan Group’s Sustainability Vision

The Mitsui Fudosan Group operates with the principle of continuously generating new value through coexistence and collaboration. The company sees the creation of social value and economic value as intertwined processes that mutually enhance one another. As part of its strategy, the group has identified critical focus areas including industrial competitiveness, environmental coexistence, health and vibrancy, security and safety, diversity and inclusion, as well as compliance and governance in its sustainability efforts.

A Diverse Range of Hotel Experiences

Mitsui Garden Hotels, with a mission to provide a rich and rejuvenating stay akin to a garden, operates 34 unique locations domestically and internationally. Each hotel embraces local characteristics with distinctive designs, and offers “delicious breakfast” options to cater to business travelers, vacationers, retreat seekers, and long-stay guests alike.

Additionally, the Celestine Hotels brand promotes destination-style hotels aimed at making the stay itself a purpose, while the sequence brand offers next-generation lifestyle hotels that encourage guests to enjoy their time in their unique way. Mitsui Fudosan Hotel Management remains dedicated to meeting diverse needs under the philosophy of creating memorable hotel experiences that enrich the sensory perceptions of their guests.
