MSC Cruises Launches the World's Largest Cruise Terminal
On April 5, 2025, MSC Cruises celebrated the grand opening of the world's largest and most technologically advanced cruise terminal located at PortMiami. The new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal sets new standards in cruise infrastructure, being the first of its kind to incorporate a fully biometric journey featuring digital identity verification that ensures a seamless embarkation experience for guests.
Designed by the renowned global architecture firm Arquitectonica and constructed by Fincantieri Infrastructure, this impressive facility spans an area of
492,678 square feet, capable of accommodating up to
36,000 passengers daily. Each operational aspect of the terminal has been meticulously designed to enhance the guest experience, ensuring that every visitor's first and last impressions during their holiday are as stress-free as possible.
A Smooth Transition from Land to Sea
The terminal will serve not only MSC Cruises' fleet but also
Explora Journeys, highlighting its versatility and extensive capacity. Guests are treated to a streamlined check-in process even before their arrival, with the option to complete online check-in through the
MSC for Me app or via the MSC Cruises website. This allows them to upload their travel documents in advance, receiving their boarding passes shortly after, ultimately saving significant time when they arrive at the terminal.
Upon reaching the terminal, guests can travel by car, taxi, bus, or ride-sharing services without complication. For those driving, the six-level parking garage offers more than
2,400 spaces, with the option to reserve a parking spot ahead of time using the app or website. There is also a dedicated area for drop-offs, making the arrival process as convenient as possible.
Effortless Check-In and Security
The terminal boasts strategically placed drop-off points, allowing guests who checked in online to simply scan their boarding pass and deposit their luggage quickly. Once inside, the use of biometrics streamlines the check-in and security processes. Guests can speed through the security lanes after scanning their passports and verifying their identity at one of the terminal’s
18 biometric face pods. This efficient screening system ensures a swift and pleasant transition into the cruise experience.
Onboard Experience Begins Before Embarkation
Before guests set sail, the terminal offers beautiful waiting areas filled with natural light where they can relax and enjoy the stunning views of Biscayne Bay. For those traveling in the
MSC Yacht Club, the exclusive luxury segment within the cruise line, a private lounge offers premium refreshments and snacks, further elevating their pre-cruise experience.
The embarkation process concludes with guests passing through one of
22 biometric E-gates, enhancing efficiency by finalizing the boarding process at the terminal rather than onboard. Thus, once guests arrive, they can immediately immerse themselves in the holiday spirit without delays.
Seamless Goodbye and Art Additions
After an enjoyable cruise, disembarking is quick and convenient thanks to an advanced baggage handling system, allowing guests to collect their luggage swiftly and head home without hassle. Inside the terminal, multiple art installations provide a cultural touch. This includes a monumental
10,816-square-foot digital display that reflects real-time data about oceanic conditions, beautifully merging art and technology.
Moreover, the terminal is designed to be a landmark destination, welcoming up to
three ships simultaneously, showcasing an unparalleled commitment to enhancing passenger experiences in the cruise industry.
MSC Cruises, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is the world's third largest cruise line, rapidly growing its footprint in North America and boasting a fleet of modern ships that cruise to over 300 destinations across five continents. With this new terminal, MSC Cruises not only redefines the cruise embarkation experience but also cements its position as a leader in the industry.
