Kato Manufacturing's Hands-On Crane Building Course
Kato Manufacturing Co., in collaboration with Soka City and Tokyo Denki University, is excited to announce the upcoming hands-on learning workshop titled "City Hero Academy Special Edition - Science". Aimed at fifth to eighth-grade students, this workshop will take place at Kato's Ibaraki factory on August 25, 2026, and will explore the fascinating process of how large crane trucks are made.
This initiative is part of a joint effort between the public and academic sectors to provide children with experiential learning opportunities that are seldom offered in traditional school settings. The program focuses on cultivating a passion for science and manufacturing among the younger generations while encouraging them to think about the future of Soka City. Having successfully held the first two sessions on July 4 and July 22, this third session will be the final installment of the three-part series.
Objectives of the Workshop
The main goal of the workshop is to help students understand the manufacturing process of large crawler cranes through direct observation and interaction with experienced engineers. Participants will have the opportunity to visit Kato's state-of-the-art Ibaraki factory, where they will learn about each stage of the crane production process, from conception to assembly. This hands-on experience is expected to complement their educational journey and spark an interest in engineering and technology fields.
In addition, students will engage in group discussions where they can reflect on what they have learned during the entire course. They will present their findings to their peers and receive constructive feedback from representatives of Soka City, Tokyo Denki University, and Kato's engineering team. This will not only provide them with a platform to showcase their knowledge but also foster community involvement and teamwork.
