Likekids and Yamamura Glass Promote Environmental Education through Upcycling Workshops

In a remarkable initiative to instill environmental consciousness among young children, Likekids Inc., operating 'Nijiiro Nursery Kameido,' hosted its second environmental education workshop focused on the upcycling of used plastic bottle caps. In partnership with Yamamura Glass Co., based in Hyogo, the event saw nursery students presenting newly created planters made from the bottle caps they had collected.

Background and Progress

Yamamura Glass Co. champions the creation of a circular economy, aiming to contribute to a sustainable society through recycling efforts. Annually, this manufacturer supplies around 3 billion plastic caps and leads a recycling project known as "RIN - Recycle Innovation in the New Normal." Over 12,000 children are under the care of Likekids, a group company of Likely Inc., which aims to ensure a rich Earth is entrusted to the next generation.

In August 2025, both companies jointly organized the first environmental learning workshop, focusing on the collection of plastic bottle caps across Likekids' nursery schools and care facilities. By the end of December 2025, a total of 64,634 bottle caps were collected and upcycled into usable planters. These planters are designed to be close to the children's daily lives, allowing them to cultivate flowers and vegetables as part of their education.

Details of the Environmental Workshop

During the latest workshop, children were engaged through a slide presentation that explained how their collected bottle caps were sorted, recycled, and ultimately transformed into planters. As the educator asked, "Who made these planters?", enthusiastic kids shouted, "The factory!" However, when informed that they, too, played a role in this process, their faces lit up with surprise. This moment made them realize their involvement in turning waste into valuable items, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility towards the environment.

Following this interactive session, the completed planters were presented to the children, allowing them to have a tangible experience of the outcomes of their efforts. Through this initiative, the workshop provided more than just a recycling lesson; it emphasized how "collection" and "sorting" can positively impact society and the environment. Additionally, the planters were presented to care facilities operated by the Likely Group, reinforcing the outreach of sustainability efforts.

RIN - Recycle Innovation in the New Normal

The RIN project originated from the "bottle-to-bottle" concept, focusing on transforming used plastic bottle caps back into new caps or other valuable products. The project designs seamless processes from product development to collection, regeneration, and reuse, creating new value for society. RIN is actively seeking new partners who align with its mission to create value and promote sustainability. RIN HP
