Skyseeker Chosen for Tama Innovation Ecosystem's Leading Project
Skyseeker Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has been selected for the Leading Project of the
Tama Innovation Ecosystem Promotion Program for the 2023 fiscal year. The project aims to validate the effectiveness of their wildlife damage countermeasure assessment service,
Sato Karte, in collaboration with the city of Akiruno in Tokyo.
Project Overview
The initiative focuses on utilizing the
Sato Karte service to address agricultural damage caused by wild boars, in coordination with the
Environmental Agriculture and Forestry Division of Akiruno City. The project will involve visualizing damage risks, implementing appropriate countermeasures, and verifying their effectiveness. It aims to establish a data-driven method to prioritize which areas should receive attention, particularly given the constraints of limited personnel and budget in local governments.
Background of the Project
The Tama region, characterized by the proximity of urban areas to forests and farmland, faces challenges due to agricultural damage from wildlife such as wild boars and bears. Local governments independently manage information regarding wildlife-related damages and sightings, and there is a lack of integration of this information with environmental data such as terrain and land use. This often leads to overwhelming burdens for local officials to perform on-site assessments, prioritize countermeasures, explain to residents, and coordinate internally. Specifically in Akiruno City, addressing wild boar damage around agricultural land is essential for maintaining community safety, agricultural sustainability, and the quality of living environments.
Objectives of the Project
The project aims to validate the effectiveness of the
Sato Karte service within Akiruno City by focusing on mitigating agricultural damage caused by wild boars. In August 2023, drone surveys will be conducted in the designated test area to collect necessary data for assessments using the
Sato Karte.
Results from the drones, coupled with damage reports and other regional information regarding terrain and land use, will be analyzed to visualize damage risks and determine priority areas for countermeasures. After analyzing the diagnostic results, real countermeasures will be implemented, and changes will be verified through the use of sensor cameras and interviews with local stakeholders. Key verification aspects include:

- - Visualization of damage risks and priority countermeasures

From fiscal year 2024 onwards, the project aims to enhance the service based on the results obtained during this trial and eventually expand it to municipalities across Japan, starting from the Tama region.
