FLOOAT's New Vision of Connection Through Flexible Workspaces

Exploring Flexible Connections: FLOOAT at Orgatec Tokyo 2025

FLOOAT, a design studio established in 2011, is making waves in the furniture design industry with its innovative approach to workspace solutions. From June 3 to 5, 2025, the firm will be participating in Orgatec Tokyo 2025 at the Tokyo Big Sight, showcasing its latest developments under the well-known wood furniture brand, HIDA.

FLOOAT's booth will feature the work of renowned designer Motomi Kawakami, who combines the warmth of wood with modern functionality. The exhibition is designed to evolve daily, enabling visitors to experience different forms of “connection” each day they visit. Within the work lounge, which exudes a cozy atmosphere thanks to the natural wood elements, a rotating chair that meets the needs of today's diverse work styles will be one of the centerpiece attractions.

The Philosophy Behind the Design

FLOOAT emphasizes the importance of connection in its latest designs, with the centerpiece being the TUTU coffee table. This table draws inspiration from various forms of collaboration and socialization. It can stand alone or be combined with multiple units to create versatile seating arrangements that harmonize with other unique furniture pieces.

The work lounge will be designed around TUTU, shifting its layout daily to showcase different interpretations of connectivity. This fluid design philosophy resonates with the modern demand for dynamic office environments that foster communication and adaptability among users. As workplaces increasingly accommodate diverse working styles, the modular nature of FLOOAT’s designs aims to meet these emerging needs while maintaining a high standard of aesthetics and comfort.

Introducing TUTU: A Fusion of Design and Functionality

The TUTU prototype will be unveiled for the first time at Orgatec. Crafted from domestic cypress wood, it boasts a simple yet elegant design characterized by its semi-circular legs, making it suitable for various functions. By arranging multiple TUTUs together, users can create soft, rhythmic patterns across the workspace.

The exposition will not only highlight TUTU but also present a range of other furniture pieces such as the HIHI DADA chair, designed by Haruka Misawa, and the SHIRABE table by Motomi Kawakami. Each piece reflects HIDA’s dedication to utilizing natural wood grains and offers captivating fabric options to further enhance the workplace's aesthetic and functional possibilities.

Orgatec Tokyo 2025: Event Overview

The event will take place from June 3 to 5, 2025, at Tokyo Big Sight in Hall South 1-4. Visitors can register in advance via the official website, and the entrance will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM on the first two days and from 10 AM to 4 PM on the final day.

As the first international exhibition stemming from the long-standing Orgatec event in Cologne, Germany—now in its 70th year—Orgatec Tokyo aims to connect designers, architects, dealers, developers, and industry professionals. The theme this year, continuing from the last, is “SHIFT DESIGN,” encouraging collaboration and inspiration across different sectors in responding to the changes in work styles.

By participating in Orgatec Tokyo 2025, FLOOAT seeks to transform the traditional understanding of workspaces, making furniture not just functional, but a crucial element in fostering connections and enhancing workplace dynamics across the globe.

This groundbreaking exhibition promises not only to showcase innovative products but also to inspire a new narrative around how we view and utilize workspaces in an ever-evolving world.
