Innovative Dance Event to Eradicate Exploitative Practices in the Industry

A New Era in the Dance Scene: BUGAKU-R Re.5

On May 17, 2026, the innovative street dance event "BUGAKU-R Re.5" will take place at Live in Buddy in Ekoda, Tokyo. Organized by the BUGAKU-R Executive Committee, this event aims to transform the traditional model of the dance industry, often accused of exploiting talented dancers.

Breaking the Cycle of Exploitation

Currently, the street dance community in Japan boasts over six million participants, driven by the educational incorporation of dance in schools and the emergence of professional leagues. However, many events charge participants a so-called "ticket quota" ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of yen, forcing dancers to pay merely for the opportunity to perform—often referred to as a "Pay to Play" model. This financial barrier often discourages young, talented dancers who lack the necessary funds, causing them to abandon their dreams. Additionally, the pressure to gather audiences takes precedence over improving their performance skills. Hence, the establishment of BUGAKU-R aims to challenge this persistent issue by creating a fair system where dancers are rightfully compensated and recognized for their skills.

A Unique Payback System for the Audience

The "BUGAKU-R Re.5" event is revolutionary as it completely eliminates these ticket fees. Instead, it introduces a unique system called the "Audience Payback System." Here’s how it works:
1. Coin Rebate (Basic Reward): Every attendee can vote for their favorite performers. Each vote translates to 200 yen being given to the dancers, while a vote from guest judges is equivalent to 2,000 yen.
2. Support Your Favorite: Attendees can fuel their favorite teams with additional coin purchases during what is termed "support consumption," significantly impacting the performers' total earnings. The team with the highest score in initial evaluation receives an extra 10% of the total revenue from the event—a direct boost to their funding while increasing fan engagement. Also, there’s a special bonus: if attendance exceeds 200 people, an additional bonus of 100,000 yen is offered.
3. Next Performance Offer: The team amassing the highest reward coins will earn the title of "Winner Guest" and be guaranteed a performance fee for the next event, thus supporting their career growth beyond one-time prizes.

BUGAKU-R provides a platform where dancers earn from captivating their audience rather than incurring costs to perform. We invite passionate dancers to showcase their talents, energize the crowd, and compete for their share of the prizes. Let’s stir the dance world together with a bold statement through our art!
