Okayama University Hosts Dialogue Session with Students to Enhance Education

Enhancing Education at Okayama University: A Dialogue with Students

In an effort to improve educational pathways and foster student engagement, Okayama University organized a dialogue session between current students and Makoto Suga, the executive vice president. This significant event took place over two days: November 13 and December 5, 2025, and aimed to facilitate direct communication and exchange of fresh ideas and challenges regarding education at the university.

A New Approach to Education

The university is committed to educational reforms inspired by the new high school curriculum guidelines in Japan, which emphasize proactive, interactive, and deep learning experiences. The discussions centered around the newly implemented undergraduate courses, particularly focusing on the perspectives of first-year students who are pioneers in this new academic environment.

On November 13, six students attended, followed by eleven on December 5. To kick off the discussions, Vice President Suga inquired about the students' utilization of AI technologies. Responses highlighted the various applications AI has in their daily lives, such as assistance with writing emails and English essays, organizing thoughts, preparing for exams, and serving as consulting partners in daily situations.

Exploring Knowledge Through Teamwork

The conversation then shifted to the cross-disciplinary course
