Metsä Village and Moomin Valley Park Achieve Phase-Free Certification
The
Metsä group, operated by fintech global company (FGI) under the leadership of President Nobumitsu Tamai, has exciting news: Metsä Village and Moomin Valley Park have officially obtained the
Phase-Free Certification as of February 27, 2026. This certification aims to recognize products and services designed to be useful both in everyday life and during emergencies. Notably, this marks the first instance of a theme park in Japan receiving such recognition.
The Purpose Behind the Certification
Metsä embodies the concept
“living with open spaces,” inspired by Nordic values such as the culture of rest represented by “fika” and a lifestyle that appreciates coexistence with nature. Unlike conventional leisure complexes, which primarily function as recreational spaces, Metsä distinguishes itself with a philosophy that removes boundaries between daily and emergency uses, aligning closely with the
Phase-Free principles.
While many leisure facilities fail to serve as adequate emergency response points during disasters, Metsä offers a serene environment surrounded by forests and lakes where visitors can enjoy shopping, dining, and cultural experiences in normal times. In emergencies, existing resources like self-generating power facilities and water storage systems can be maximally utilized, minimizing additional investment while doubling as a disaster response hub for local residents. These commendable attributes led to its successful acquisition of the Phase-Free Certification.
Understanding Phase-Free and Phase-Free Certification
Phase-Free is a fresh concept in disaster preparedness that abolishes the barriers between normal and emergency scenarios. It focuses on designing products and services, originally convenient for everyday use, that can also protect lives and livelihoods during emergencies. The
Phase-Free Certification is granted by the Phase-Free Association, certifying that products and services are designed following the Phase-Free concept.
