Hiraku Produces New Library Experience in Aichi Prefecture
Hiraku, the innovative company behind the concept of admission-fee bookstores known as 'Bunkitsu', is set to open a new library called 'Saryo Korankei Bunko' in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture on December 6, 2025. This unique space aims to meld literature with the beautiful natural surroundings of Korankei, providing a sensory experience for visitors. Not only will Hiraku manage the initial production of the library, but they will also continue to support its operations through book direction.
Pre-Launch Exhibition at Bunkitsu Sakae
To build excitement ahead of the grand opening, a special exhibition introducing 'Saryo Korankei Bunko' will take place at Bunkitsu Sakae in Nagoya, from September 30 to October 30, 2025. Attendees will have the chance to engage with the library concept and enjoy a campaign offering them a daily use pass to Saryo Korankei Bunko.
Background and Production Overview
Hiraku has a rich history in producing cultural spaces, having developed various facilities like the magazine library 'COVER', and the combined bookstore and hotel 'Nehahasu'. Their recent work includes the comprehensive production of the concept floor 'Komorebi' at Newman Takanawa, which opened on September 12, 2025. The upcoming Saryo Korankei Bunko will be adjacent to a dining place run by Ichinotani, a subsidiary of Honda Logistics. The library will be established in a reclaimed space that was previously a souviner shop, focusing on creating an experience where visitors can savor food, literature, and the surrounding landscape.
A Unique Library Experience
At Saryo Korankei Bunko, entry costs 1,650 yen (includes tax), allowing access to a serene environment lined with around 2,000 books. This library aims to immerse guests in a culture-rich experience. By employing a mix of new releases, antiquarian books, and out-of-print magazines, visitors can freely browse a curated selection. The concept also embraces the feel of a traditional Japanese farmhouse, with relaxing and comfortable spaces designed for all ages while preserving original features such as thatched roofs and tatami mat rooms.
Design and Book Direction
Hiraku's team is dedicated not just to spatial design, but to crafting a narrative that centers on the book experience, ensuring that both cultural enrichment and natural beauty play a crucial role in the visitor experience. The library will include several reading areas, such as sunlit corners and covered decks for admiring the scenery, contributing to a homely yet dynamic environment that invites you to linger.
By focusing on themes of nostalgia and freshness, the selection of books and the library's atmosphere will aim to provide a new destination for tourists, especially during the autumn leaves season in Korankei. This interaction with literature alongside nature is expected to redefine the concept of sightseeing in the area.
