CATL Unveils Revolutionary Energy Storage System TENER+ at All Energy Australia 2026

MELBOURNE, Australia – On October 29, 2026, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) introduced the TENER+ energy storage system at the All Energy Australia 2026 event. Additionally, the company announced collaborative agreements with Hitachi Energy, EPEC Group, and UNSW Sydney aimed at advancing large-scale battery projects across Australia.

Innovative Energy Solutions for Australia

CATL's energy storage systems, including TENER+ and the pioneering TENER Sodium, are carefully engineered to meet the demanding performance standards required for significant energy projects in Australia. These systems are designed to endure Australia’s harsh weather conditions and ensure compliance with stringent grid connection requirements. They instill confidence in project financiers regarding the reliability and long-term performance necessary for revenue generation in battery operations.

Key Features of TENER+

The TENER+ system boasts an impressive storage capacity of 9 MWh, enhancing value for developers by maximizing a project's storage potential. By reducing the required container count by up to 40% and minimizing the project footprint by 12%, TENER+ is the optimal choice for projects facing space constraints. It features an advanced heating management system that increases overall efficiency while lowering auxiliary power consumption. Multiple TENER+ batteries can be activated synchronously to streamline project implementation. Built to last for 25 years, it incorporates liquid cooling systems and protective measures for humid and coastal environments, keeping noise levels under 65 dBA at a one-meter distance. The innovative “No-Heat-Island” design directs hot air vertically, preventing heat transfer to adjacent units, thus enabling full-capacity operation even in extreme summer conditions.

Pioneering Sodium-Ion Technology

In addition to TENER+, CATL introduced TENER Sodium, recognized as the world's first commercially produced and field-tested sodium-ion battery energy storage system. With a modular cabinet design, TENER Sodium delivers over 30 MWh, functioning efficiently in temperatures reaching 55°C and accommodating more than 10,000 charge cycles at 45°C. This system achieves a round-trip efficiency of 95%, boasting a lifespan exceeding 20 years. Together, these storage systems provide developers and asset owners with choices between lithium-ion and sodium-ion options, with sodium being more abundant and geographically dispersed than lithium, thus creating new pathways for battery supply chains.

“Batteries are assessed based on their performance throughout a project's life, not merely at the time of installation,” explained Zane Zhou, Managing Director of CATL Australia and New Zealand. “Developers must have confidence that their batteries can handle the expected charging and discharging cycles to engage in the National Electricity Market effectively.”

Strengthening Local Partnerships

To address the challenges of integrating increasing renewable energy supplies into Australia's electricity grid, CATL's agreements aim to leverage Australian expertise and innovation. Notably, during the third quarter of 2026, renewable sources contributed a record 44.3% of total electricity generation in the National Electricity Market (NEM), with grid-scale batteries covering 8% of peak evening demand, surpassing gas-fired generation for the first time as noted by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO).

With the retirement of coal-fired power plants, there's a growing need for energy storage systems capable of grid-forming capabilities to stabilize voltage and frequency. CATL's partnerships with Hitachi Energy and EPEC Group will provide a robust framework for integrated energy solutions to improve compatibility, standardize project delivery, and mitigate integration risks.

Commitment to Local Development

Moreover, CATL plans to collaborate with UNSW Sydney to establish the “Centre for Integrated Renewable Energy Training and Innovation” in West Sydney, fostering the skills and competencies necessary for Australia's energy transition. Zhou emphasized that CATL’s commitment to Australia extends beyond merely supplying storage systems; it includes investing in local talent, partnerships, and critical skills to bring substantial energy projects to fruition.

With a five-year track record of leading global energy storage battery deliveries, CATL is anticipated to hold a market share of 30.4% by 2025. The company is listed among top Tier-1 energy storage vendors according to BloombergNEF quarterly reports since Q1 2024 and has successfully executed over 3,000 energy storage projects globally, including a substantial installed capacity of more than 17 GWh within Australia.
