Kansas City Royals and Sun Life Support Community Health

In an inspiring display of community collaboration, Sun Life U.S. and the Kansas City Royals Foundation have successfully raised $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City through their annual Strikeout Diabetes campaign. The donation was presented during a recent game against the Seattle Mariners, marking the eighth consecutive year the two organizations have partnered for this vital cause.

Ryan Bohrer, Vice President of Dental and Vision at Sun Life U.S., expressed the company’s commitment to community support, stating, "Sun Life is committed to supporting the communities where we live and work, so we are pleased to help the Boys & Girls Clubs provide all the wonderful programming they offer." This ongoing partnership has proven beneficial for health programs in the Kansas City area, with initiatives aimed at increasing access to health and fitness resources that can help prevent type 2 diabetes.

Since its inception, the Strikeout Diabetes campaign has successfully raised over $280,000 for various local nonprofits. The goal is to support initiatives that offer health and fitness education, especially within vulnerable communities. Jason Roth, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City, stated, "We are lucky to have this continued support from Sun Life and the Royals, ensuring our kids have opportunities to get more involved in health and fitness activities, and better understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle."

Furthermore, Sun Life runs the #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes campaign every November during Diabetes Awareness Month in collaboration with the Boston Celtics, also benefitting health education programs through local YMCAs.

In addition to Strikeout Diabetes, Sun Life collaborates with DentaQuest to present the Health Access Hero Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations contributing to expanding access to healthcare. This has been a tradition for over 12 years and underscores Sun Life's commitment to healthcare equity.

Amy Gale, Senior Director of Community Impact and Executive Director of the Kansas City Royals Foundation, remarked on the importance of such community programs, saying, "Strikeout Diabetes is a great way for us to engage our fans and show them our commitment to helping the youth of our city learn healthy habits that will stay with them into adulthood."

Sun Life also supports the American Diabetes Association and has donated over $37 million globally to diabetes-related causes, emphasizing its active role in combating this health issue.
