RoboSense Enhances WeRide's Robotaxi GXR with Advanced Digital LiDAR Technology for Global Launch

RoboSense Powers WeRide's New Robotaxi with Next-Generation Digital LiDAR

In a groundbreaking announcement, RoboSense (2498.HK), an AI-focused robotics technology firm, has revealed that its state-of-the-art thousand-beam-level digital LiDAR systems will be integral to the latest Robotaxi, known as GXR. This fleet, co-developed with WeRide and the Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group (a subsidiary of Geely), marks an exciting advancement in the autonomous vehicle sector, with a total of 2,000 units set to be produced and deployed internationally.

Innovative Digital LiDAR Technology

The GXR Robotaxi is equipped with the next-generation autonomous driving suite, GEN8, which features the Sensor Suite 8.0 (SS8.0), a cutting-edge system designed to enhance perception in self-driving vehicles. At the heart of this system lies RoboSense's EM4 digital LiDAR, recognized as a significant leap in technology.

Launched in early 2025, the EM4 is customizable with up to 2,160 beams, delivering a 17-fold enhancement in point cloud density. This remarkable capability allows the Robotaxi GXR to detect obstacles from distances up to 600 meters, thereby improving reaction times by more than 70% in high-speed driving situations.

Alongside the EM4, the GXR is outfitted with the E1, a fully solid-state digital LiDAR designed to cover blind spots. With a substantial field of view (FoV) of 120° x 90°, the E1 is the only mass-produced automotive-grade unit made to address near-field challenges, ensuring comprehensive safety.

A New Era of Autonomous Mobility

The advanced configuration of EM4 as the primary LiDAR and E1 for blind-spot detection ensures the Robotaxi GXR offers a seamless integration of long-range accuracy and complete situational awareness, even in adverse weather conditions. This partnership signifies RoboSense's goal of enhancing the global proliferation of Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving.

By January 2026, WeRide had already deployed a fleet of over 1,023 Robotaxis worldwide. With the introduction of these additional 2,000 units, bolstered by RoboSense's cutting-edge LiDAR technology, this number is anticipated to surpass 2,600 vehicles across the globe. WeRide’s services are operational in several major cities, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, Beijing, and Guangzhou.

RoboSense maintains partnerships with over 90% of the industry's leading L4 autonomous driving companies, highlighting its pivotal role in the evolving ecosystem of Robotaxis. This collaboration is poised to redefine urban mobility, making self-driving technology more accessible to individuals worldwide.

Conclusion

The integration of RoboSense's LiDAR technology into the WeRide Robotaxi GXR is a significant step toward the future of autonomous transportation. With its advanced features and anticipated global rollout, this initiative will likely contribute to safer, more efficient urban mobility solutions in the near future. As these technologies continue to develop, the landscape of public transportation is set to undergo a remarkable transformation, showcasing the potential for AI-driven solutions in daily life.
