Huawei Launches Intelligent RAIL 2.0

On September 30, 2026, during InnoTrans 2026— the largest global railway transport exhibition that occurred from September 22 to 25—Huawei introduced its next generation solution, Intelligent RAIL 2.0. This launch marks a significant development in advancing intelligent applications across various scenarios in the railway industry worldwide. The event gathered representatives from industry organizations like the International Union of Railways (UIC) and the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), along with clients and ecosystem partners from around the globe to discuss the future of the sector.

During the keynote session, Raymond Zuo, President of Huawei's Smart Rail Business Unit, emphasized the pressing need for the integration of digital and intelligent technologies in railway businesses to address longstanding issues. "As society transitions into an age of smart technologies, more stakeholders are searching for ways to incorporate these innovations into their core operations," he remarked. This statement highlighted the industry's shift from GSM-R to the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), which is anticipated to become the robust digital backbone for railway operators.

Among the speakers was Jean-Michel Evanghelou, UIC’s Director of Digital Systems and Innovation, who stressed that FRMCS represents the foundational step toward establishing a reliable digital infrastructure. He noted that the continuous integration of AI applications into core railway systems is crucial, thus underlining the growing importance of standardizing such technologies.

In a related discussion, UITP General Secretary Mohamed Mezghani and Lidia Signor, Head of Multimodal Transport at UITP, presented insights from their latest research report, “AI-Driven Smart Rail Transport.” They demonstrated how AI solutions are currently enhancing the construction, operation, and maintenance of subway systems, leading to improved operational efficiency and safety across rail transport services.

Huawei's Intelligent RAIL 2.0 introduces 20 innovative scenario-based solutions built on core technologies that address persistent challenges within the industry. These solutions target three pivotal areas: construction, passenger and freight transportation, as well as equipment maintenance. By collaborating with partners who specialize in industry applications, Huawei aims to develop modular and combinable solutions tailored to the specific business scenarios and requirements of its clients.

As of today, Huawei has more than 50 major customers in the railway sector and supports over 300 urban rail transit lines, which collectively span more than 180,000 kilometers. Not only is Huawei a leading global provider of ICT products, but it also positions itself as a critical partner in the digital transformation journey necessary for modernizing railway systems in the age of smart technologies.
