The City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has made impressive strides in its global standing by securing the 70th position in the recently released Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027. This marks the university's best performance to date, progressing three spots higher than the previous year.

CityUHK's exceptional ranking is a testament to its outstanding performance across various evaluation metrics. Notably, it has maintained the prestigious title of world leader in the "Industry" category for the fourth consecutive year. Furthermore, it continues to hold the top position in Hong Kong concerning its "International Outlook," demonstrating a strong emphasis on global engagement and collaboration.

The THE World University Rankings evaluates nearly 2,300 institutions worldwide, utilizing 17 different indicators categorized under five core areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook. The Chief Global Affairs Officer at THE, Phil Baty, elaborated on the significance of these rankings, indicating a shifting landscape in global higher education, where power is increasingly moving from the West to the East.

Mr. Baty remarked, "It's remarkable that CityUHK has continued its strong progress, moving firmly into the top 70 globally, especially amid fierce international competition. This indicates that CityUHK possesses an expansive strength across the 17 metrics used for ranking evaluation. Its leading position in international outlook signals its attractiveness as a hub for global talent and partnerships, which is reflected in its perfect score in the industry collaboration category."

CityUHK's perfect score of 100 in the "Industry" pillar underscores its eminent position in patent development and technology commercialization, and it highlights the proactive efforts in fostering a vibrant innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Perhaps most notably, CityUHK has been recognized as the "Most International University in the World" by THE for three consecutive years. This signifies the university's commitment to international collaboration and further underscores its top rank in Hong Kong's "International Outlook" for the ninth consecutive year.

The university's dedication to academic excellence and innovative research has consistently been acknowledged both locally and globally. For two consecutive years, CityUHK has seen advancements in various metrics such as "Teaching Reputation" and "Research Reputation." The institution's performance in the "Research Quality" category has seen it break into the global top 50, thanks to strong scores across critical indicators.

According to the QS World University Rankings for 2027, CityUHK has advanced 11 places to reach 52nd globally, placing it well within the top 3% of universities worldwide. Likewise, in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities Rankings for 2026–2027, CityUHK climbed seven spots to achieve 47th globally. Moreover, it maintained its position within the top 100 worldwide, securing the 95th rank for the second consecutive year in the ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities 2026.
