Robin Zeng's Vision for a Global Carbon Neutral Transition with CATL's Commitment
Robin Zeng's Vision for a Global Carbon Neutral Transition
In a significant address at the second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, Dr. Robin Zeng, the Chairman and CEO of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), articulated a compelling vision for the transition to global carbon neutrality. He highlighted CATL's commitment to fostering open collaboration and mutually beneficial industrial relationships worldwide, particularly focusing on empowering emerging economies.
Dr. Zeng emphasized that catalyzing the energy transition requires profound industrial cooperation and the sharing of advanced technologies. He stated, "There are many ways to cooperate. CATL is ready to jointly build factories, form joint ventures, and engage in technology licensing agreements." This philosophy of collaboration is core to CATL's strategy in developing local ecosystems, supporting partners globally on their path to achieving carbon neutrality.
Highlighting the electrification opportunities in transport, CATL pointed out the rapid growth in electric vehicle (EV) markets in Southeast Asia, including countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The company is actively seeking partnerships in these regions, such as its collaboration with Arun Plus in Thailand to supply batteries and support the nation's ambition to become the electric vehicle hub of Southeast Asia. Furthermore, CATL is jointly developing a comprehensive industrial value chain from mining to recycling in Indonesia to localize the EV ecosystem.
Beyond transportation, CATL's Zero Carbon Technology initiatives include innovative energy storage systems essential for maximizing renewable energy potential. Their grid-forming storage systems enable independent microgrids, crucial for remote areas and industrial sites. A notable project includes a 19 GWh battery energy storage system that powers the
