Valmet Secures Contract for Biomass Boiler and Flue Gas System in Sweden
Valmet's New Biomass Boiler Contract in Sweden
On July 7, 2025, Valmet Oyj announced a significant contract with Kraftringen Energi, focusing on sustainable energy solutions in Sweden. This project entails the delivery of a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) boiler and a flue gas handling system for a new combined heat and power (CHP) plant, scheduled to be built in Örtofta, located within the Eslöv municipality of Skåne.
Valmet's latest order is part of the company's growing portfolio of energy efficiency solutions, contributing to the transition towards renewable energy. With this order included in Valmet's Q2 2025 activities, the financial specifics remain undisclosed.
Project Impact on Local Energy Landscape
The new CHP facility will be situated adjacent to the current plant, aimed at upgrading the aging energy production infrastructure. This modern facility is expected to effectively provide district heating, ensuring a steady supply of heat and hot water for extensive areas in central and western Skåne. By substantially increasing the energy output capacity in Örtofta, Kraftringen Energi is poised to deliver an incredible 25 MW of power to new electricity consumers.
Apart from energy generation, this plant promises to yield additional benefits such as enhanced production of process steam and improved local energy reliability. The integration of Valmet's flue gas treatment technology, featuring an advanced heat recovery system, will channel extra energy back into the district heating network, thereby maximizing efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
Future-Ready and Sustainable
Importantly, Valmet's system is designed with adaptability in mind. As the emphasis on carbon neutrality increases, the CHP plant will possess the capacity for future integration of carbon capture technologies, aligning with global sustainability goals. This project represents a significant leap forward in Skåne's energy production landscape, being the largest investment in a decade, which promises not just to meet current energy demands but to reinforce energy security in the region.
