GameChange Solar Secures Landmark 1.25 GW Tracker Deal for Abydos II in Egypt
In a significant move towards renewable energy, GameChange Solar has announced a monumental contract to supply its advanced Genius Tracker™ 1P Single Row systems for the Abydos Solar PV Plant - Phase II located in Egypt. This groundbreaking project, developed by AMEA Power and built by CEEC-ZTPC, will generate 1 GWac of solar power and integrate a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), marking a new chapter in the region's energy landscape.
The contract is not just a business transaction; it is a testament to the strong partnership between the major players involved. Vikas Bansal, the President - International at GameChange Solar, expressed his pride in continuing to support CEEC-ZTPC and AMEA Power in transforming energy production in Africa. He highlighted the successful completion of the first phase of the Abydos project, which accumulated 560 MW and has already begun commercial operations. This latest contract reflects the trust established through reliable collaboration and showcases the growing demand for advanced solar power technologies in Egypt.
Abydos II stands out as one of the largest solar-plus-storage projects on the African continent, contributing strategically to Egypt's ambitious goal of achieving 42% renewable energy generation by 2030. Scheduled for commissioning by May 2026, the project will cover an expansive area of 20 square kilometers within the Aswan Governorate. Once operational, the plant is expected to generate approximately 3,000 GWh of electricity annually. This output is sufficient to power over 500,000 households, offering a sustainable solution while significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over a million tonnes each year.
The technology offered by GameChange Solar enables solar panels to align with the sun’s trajectory, thereby optimizing energy production and protecting installations from harsh weather conditions. By combining fast installation, bankable quality, and innovative design, GameChange has positioned itself as a competitive leader in the solar tracking market.
GameChange Solar has established itself among the top global providers of solar tracker solutions, delivering over 43 GW of solar trackers and fixed-tilt systems worldwide. With the addition of the Abydos II project, their cumulative capacity in Egypt now reaches nearly 3 GW, solidifying their status as a key player in solar energy across the region.
As the public increasingly becomes aware of the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions, projects like Abydos II exemplify how innovation in solar technology can pave the way for a greener future. As we look to the future, the collaboration between GameChange Solar, CEEC-ZTPC, and AMEA Power will undoubtedly set a precedent for future renewable energy projects in Egypt and beyond.
