CIMC Sets a New Benchmark in Modular Construction in Central Africa

CIMC Launches Central Africa's First Modular Building Project

On January 5, 2026, China International Marine Containers (CIMC) took a significant step forward in the evolution of infrastructure within Central Africa by dispatching the first modular office building project to the Bastos District of Yaoundé, Cameroon. This ambitious venture highlights CIMC's commitment to revolutionizing construction standards in the region and signifies a new era in modular construction.

Shipment Journey

The modular units responsible for this groundbreaking project departed from CIMC's state-of-the-art production facility located in Xinhui, Jiangmen, and began a meticulous journey traversing a complex intermodal route. The shipment will navigate through the South China Sea, the Strait of Malacca, and venture through the Indian Ocean. The route proceeds south along the eastern coast of Africa, rounding the Cape of Good Hope and ultimately docking in Central Africa within a projected period of about 60 days. This painstaking logistics operation underscores CIMC’s capability to execute intricate supply chains effectively.

Vision and Planning

During the shipping ceremony, Irwin Wang, who plays a pivotal role in CIMC, remarked on the importance of synchronizing various internal strengths, thereby achieving a harmonious blend of research, manufacturing, delivery, and assembly operations. The office project will span approximately 3,000 square meters and comply entirely with permanent construction standards applicable in the region. Comprising 78 meticulously crafted modular units built in China, this office space promises to expedite the workspace availability in Cameroon significantly.

With traditional construction timelines often elongated by various factors, the completion of this modular project is expected to take over 50% less time compared to conventional methods, thereby enabling the workspace to be ready by the latter half of 2026. The completed structure will accommodate nearly 200 staff, featuring modern office spaces, meeting rooms, and dining facilities, designed to meet the growing demands for contemporary work environments in an urbanizing Central African economy.

Aligning With Local Needs

This project stands at the confluence of modernization and local adaptation. Given the rapid urbanization in Central Africa, there is an escalating need for advanced office and living spaces, which traditional construction methods struggle to meet amidst pressing deadlines and soaring costs.
