RECongress Moves to Long Beach Convention Center for Exciting New Era
RECongress Relocation to Long Beach Convention Center: A New Journey Begins
The Los Angeles Religious Education Congress (RECongress), recognized as one of the most significant annual Catholic events in the United States, has announced an exciting change. Starting in 2028, this renowned gathering will find its new home at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center for a five-year period, spanning until 2032.
This transition from Anaheim, where the event had been held for the past 57 years, signifies a pivotal moment for RECongress as it aims to elevate the experience for attendees by choosing a destination that resonates with its mission of renewal and connection. The decision was celebrated during a recent event attended by various dignitaries, including Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson and representatives from Meet Long Beach.
Organized by the Office of Religious Education of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, RECongress has a rich history dating back to 1956. Over the years, it has evolved into a global hub focused on faith formation, spiritual growth, and community building. Each year, it attracts around 20,000 participants from across the United States and around the world. The move to Long Beach is expected to accommodate this growing number of attendees while also significantly impacting the local economy.
Sister Rosalia Meza, Senior Director of the Office of Religious Education, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "For 70 years, RECongress has drawn Catholics from around the globe seeking prayer, learning, and spiritual renewal. We are delighted to open our next chapter by bringing our beloved gathering home to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in Long Beach in 2028."
The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, boasting over 400,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, is designed to host large gatherings efficiently. Its location in the heart of Long Beach’s vibrant downtown waterfront provides visitors easy access to a variety of local businesses, restaurants, and attractions. This strategic relocation is not just about changing locations; it's about enhancing what RECongress offers to its attendees and breathing new life into an already cherished event.
More than 5,000 hotel room nights are anticipated annually, alongside a boost in economic activity for local establishments during the convention days. Steve Goodling, President and CEO of Meet Long Beach, highlighted the importance of this move, noting, "Bringing RECongress to Long Beach is a significant moment for our city, and we look forward to working closely with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles over the next five years."
The program for RECongress will include various workshops, events, and exhibitions designed for both youth and adults, further promoting spiritual growth and a deeper connection with faith. Additionally, the event caters to its diverse audience by offering programming in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, ensuring accessibility for all participants.
In summary, the migration of RECongress to Long Beach embodies a transformative journey not only for the event itself but also for the city. It presents a robust opportunity to foster connections, promote spiritual enrichment, and enhance community engagement. The Long Beach community eagerly anticipates welcoming thousands of visitors, showcasing its renowned hospitality and diverse spirit while providing a new backdrop for one of the country’s most prolific Catholic gatherings. All eyes will be on Long Beach as it prepares to embrace this significant event in the coming years.
