Thompson Thrift Welcomes JR Plyler as Chief Investment Officer

On March 12, 2026, Thompson Thrift, an esteemed full-service real estate firm known for its extensive work in multifamily and mixed-use development, announced the appointment of JR Plyler as Chief Investment Officer (CIO). This strategic move aims to strengthen the firm’s investment strategy, capital markets, and asset management initiatives, all while positioning the company for sustained long-term growth.

Dan Sink, President and CFO of Thompson Thrift Development, expressed enthusiasm about Plyler's appointment, stating, "We're excited to welcome JR to the Thompson Thrift team. We are committed to scaling our platform in a disciplined and intentional way. JR's extensive experience overseeing capital formation, investment oversight, and partner relationships makes him a remarkable addition to our executive team." Notably, Plyler's collaborative leadership style and player/coach approach are expected to align seamlessly with the company's culture.

Plyler brings a wealth of experience to his new role, with 15 years of institutional real estate investment expertise. Prior to joining Thompson Thrift, he served as Senior Managing Director and Head of Investments at a large national development and management platform. In that capacity, he oversaw centralized investment management, partnering with executive leadership to bolster capital formation, construct portfolio strategies, and ensure operational alignment. Under his leadership, the platform increased its assets to over $12 billion and successfully raised more than $5 billion in external equity, collaborating with over 30 global institutional partners.

As the CIO of Thompson Thrift, Plyler will take charge of the company's equity and debt capital markets and asset management teams. Additionally, he will be an integral component of the executive team and investment committee, guiding vital capital allocation decisions and seizing opportunities to enhance portfolio performance.

Reflecting on his new role, Plyler noted, "Thompson Thrift has built an impressive national platform grounded in disciplined development and strong partnerships. I look forward to working alongside the team to further strengthen our capital capabilities and support the company's continued growth."

Thompson Thrift has a rich history spanning four decades, with over $7.1 billion invested into various local communities across the United States. The firm has established itself as a reliable partner in every facet of development, construction, leasing, and management of high-quality real estate projects.

Founded in 1986, Thompson Thrift has evolved from a local development and construction company to a fully integrated enterprise with a national footprint. With offices in Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Denver, Houston, and Phoenix, the company is actively engaged in all aspects of multifamily and commercial project development, leasing, and management.
