According to Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, “This is an extremely important launch as the decarbonization of the transport sector needs to accelerate. Our new electric vehicles can replace conventional vehicles in most scenarios. However, in certain regions and transport segments, we still require combustion engines to cut CO2 emissions both now and in the future.”

Sustainable Fuel Options and Future Innovations



The newly developed 13-liter engine platform for both diesel and gas variants is designed to be compatible with renewable fuels such as biodiesel and biogas. This means transport companies can operate with net-zero emissions by utilizing their fleets efficiently. Looking ahead, Volvo plans to roll out hydrogen-powered engines before 2030, further diversifying its sustainable offerings.

The rollout of the new battery-electric vehicles is set to begin in 2026, with sales of the newly developed combustion engines expected to start in the third quarter of the same year. This phased approach indicates Volvo's commitment to transitioning toward cleaner transportation solutions while maintaining operational functionality for customers worldwide.
