Daihen Launches Japan's First Fire Safety Certified Battery Package

Daihen Introduces Japan's First Fire Safety Certified Emergency Battery Package

Daihen Co., Ltd. has made a groundbreaking move in disaster prevention by introducing Japan's first fire safety certified emergency power supply package utilizing lithium-ion batteries. This innovative product aligns with the amendments made to the Fire Service Act on July 30, 2023, allowing the installation of lithium-ion batteries for both regular and emergency uses during critical situations.

Overview of the Emergency Power Supply for Designated Fire Protection Objects

Certain buildings that accommodate a large number of individuals, including those requiring evacuation assistance, typically fall under the category of designated fire protection objects. These include facilities like nursing homes, hospitals, and other establishments where emergency power supply installations are mandated by law.

The purpose of these emergency power supplies is to ensure the functionality of firefighting equipment, such as sprinklers and fire alarms, as well as emergency lighting and elevators during power outages. The reliable performance of such systems is crucial for safeguarding lives and properties. Currently, around 200,000 emergency power supplies are installed across Japan including in nursing homes, factories, commercial complexes, and public facilities, the majority of which are diesel generators operating solely during emergencies.

Key Features of the Daihen Emergency Battery Package

(1) Stable and Safe Operations

This new battery package is designed to not only function in emergencies but also to be utilized during regular operations. This proactive use minimizes the risks of failure or unexpected shutdowns during critical times. The system is notably low-noise, with no vibrations or exhaust gases, contributing to a much lower environmental impact compared to traditional systems.

(2) Cost Benefits

Daihen's emergency battery package represents significant cost savings. Users can expect a reduction of over 10% in total operational costs compared to diesel generators over a 20-year period, driven by two main factors:
  • - Reduced Electricity Costs: By employing the battery during peak hours, where electricity prices are highest, facilities can cut back on energy expenses. With the option to store excess energy generated from in-house solar panels, costs can be minimized even further, while also advancing decarbonization efforts.
  • - Maintenance Savings: Unlike diesel generators, the battery package does not require regular load testing or the exchange of fuel, oil, and coolant, which significantly lowers maintenance costs. Furthermore, there's no need to invest in noise, vibration, or exhaust gas mitigation measures depending on the installation site and surrounding environment.

Sales Information

The company is set to begin accepting orders for the emergency battery package on December 15, 2025.

Specification Reference

Note: Fire safety certification is expected to be obtained by December 2025.
Low noise levels: Traditional diesel generators operate at around 105dB, whereas this product operates at approximately 75dB (additional measures may be required depending on installation conditions).
Peak cut refers to the ability to use stored energy during peak electrical usage times to reduce the maximum demand for electricity.
Load testing: This test is mandatory once a year, ensuring that there are no issues supplying power to fire safety equipment.
