Hammes Marks the Launch of the Franklin County Crisis Care Center in Columbus, Ohio
Hammes Celebrates the Franklin County Crisis Care Center Opening
Hammes, a prominent national real estate consulting and management firm, has proudly marked the opening of the Franklin County Crisis Care Center in Columbus, Ohio. This significant achievement comes after extensive efforts to fill the gaps in behavioral health services in Central Ohio, and the facility is now welcoming patients.
The center, a state-of-the-art 72,000-square-foot establishment, was funded by the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County (ADAMH) and is operated by Recovery Innovations. It aims to provide comprehensive crisis services for individuals dealing with mental health and addiction issues. Featuring a "no-wrong-door" approach, this facility serves as a central hub, providing immediate and compassionate care.
Within its walls, the Crisis Care Center offers various services, including:
1. A 24/7 urgent care walk-in clinic for immediate assistance.
2. A 23-hour observation unit designed for short-term accommodations.
3. A 16-bed inpatient unit to support intensive care needs.
4. Substance use disorder treatment and medical and pharmacy services.
5. Family support along with discharge planning and administrative services.
One of the standout features is the EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Treatment and Healing) unit. This innovative section of the center aims to create a calming and supportive environment for patients in crisis. By diverting individuals away from standard emergency departments, the EmPATH unit offers a specialized psychiatric care experience. Open round-the-clock, it facilitates rapid evaluations and stabilization, ensuring individuals receive the care they need promptly and effectively.
Hammes played a crucial role in the development of the Franklin County Crisis Care Center. As the project manager and owner's representative, they oversaw various aspects, including site validation, program development, design, construction planning, and stakeholder coordination. They also facilitated the selection of key professionals involved in the project, including architect NBBJ and construction manager Elford.
Adam Novak, Vice President of Hammes Healthcare, highlighted the collaborative effort put into this project: "This project exemplifies what is possible when government, healthcare, and community partners come together with a shared purpose. We are incredibly proud to support Franklin County and all stakeholders involved in this transformative initiative."
Before the establishment of the Crisis Care Center, Franklin County had a mere 10 observation units available. With the new facility, the total capacity has been significantly expanded to 60 units, drastically improving access to care for those in crisis. This center has already begun to earn national acclaim for its innovative approach to crisis response and community-based care, positioning Franklin County as a leader in the field of behavioral health service delivery.
Founded in 1991, Hammes has evolved into a vertically integrated real estate solutions platform with expertise in healthcare real estate strategy, project management, and property management. Their remarkable experience has earned them recognition as one of the top healthcare developers in the country—an accolade they have maintained for 27 straight years, including 21 years in the leading position, as per the Construction Design Survey by Modern Healthcare.
