Essity Achieves CDP Supplier Engagement Leadership for Sixth Year

Essity Celebrated for Supplier Engagement Leadership

For the sixth year in a row, Essity, a leading hygiene and health company, has been honored by the global non-profit organization CDP for its outstanding performance in sustainable practices. This recognition emphasizes Essity's commitment to engaging with suppliers on initiatives aimed at combatting climate change.

Being featured on the prestigious CDP 2024 Supplier Engagement Leaderboard showcases the strong steps taken by Essity to involve its suppliers in climate action. To diminish climate-related risks and lower its emissions, Essity is focused on integrating sustainability practices into its entire supply chain. The company's goal is to realize net-zero emissions by 2050, which critically depends on collaborative engagement with its suppliers.

Aiming to cut down Scope 3 emissions, which cover indirect emissions from activities in a company’s value chain, Essity is targeting a 35% reduction by 2030. Notably, the company achieved a 21% decrease in Scope 3 emissions for 2024, demonstrating significant progress in this area.

Jessica Nordlinder, Vice President of Global Procurement at Essity, emphasizes that their approach to supplier collaboration hinges on setting clear expectations, providing resources, and fostering innovation. She states, "We communicate our environmental targets, supply the necessary tools and training, and encourage new solutions to reduce emissions. This is enabled by maintaining open lines of communication and strong partnerships with our suppliers, ensuring they are actively engaged in our shared mission for climate action."

CDP is recognized for its annual collection of environmental data, which serves as a benchmark for assessing companies’ ecological practices. The Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA) evaluates firms on various factors such as governance, emissions targets, and performance relative to Scope 3 emissions.

Essity's ongoing commitment to sustainability is further highlighted by its extensive efforts to improve environmental practices not just within its operations but across its entire supply chain. As climate change continues to pose a serious threat to global health and safety, Essity aims to champion sustainable practices among its suppliers, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in tackling these critical challenges.

The efforts by Essity resonate strongly in today’s marketplace, where consumers are increasingly prioritizing brands that actively contribute to systemic changes for the betterment of the environment. Through its leadership and dedication towards reducing long-term environmental impacts, Essity is setting a precedent for other companies in the industry. Building on this momentum, Essity is positioning itself as not only a market leader in hygiene and health products but also as a steward for sustainable business practices.
