Celebrating Love and Transformation: Petco Love Awards $500,000 for Pet Adoption Stories

On February 11, 2025, Petco Love, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare, in collaboration with BOBS® from Skechers®, announced the winners of their annual Petco Love Stories contest. This year, 25 heartwarming stories demonstrating the profound impact of pet adoption were chosen, and the initiative will distribute a total of $500,000 to various animal shelters and rescues across the country. The grand prize of $100,000 was awarded to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, which celebrated alongside Amy, a devoted adopter who shared her touching journey with her senior cat, Murray.

The Petco Love initiative aims to highlight how adopted pets can transform lives, bringing joy, companionship, and even healing. Amy's story, which details how Murray transitioned from a shelter cat to a therapy animal, exemplifies the unique bond that can form between pets and their owners. Murray has become an integral part of Amy's life, bringing cheer to seniors in memory care units and engaging with children in residential treatment homes. Through these readings, Murray not only comforts the elderly but also helps Amy connect with them, creating sense of community and support.

Petco Love received thousands of entries for the Love Stories campaign, which opened for submissions in late summer. This year's contest innovated by allowing participants to share their adoption stories in various formats, including written narratives and social media videos. As the campaign unfolds, winners across the country will celebrate their achievements alongside their furry friends, receiving grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 along with complimentary BOBS® footwear and Petco shopping sprees.

Recognizing the critical support provided by animal welfare organizations, Petco Love has made it a priority to empower these entities with substantial funding. Since the campaign's inception in 2013, it has successfully inspired over 25,000 adopters to share their stories, contributing to the awarding of $8 million in grants. With the increasing need for pet adoption awareness, this campaign serves as a reminder of the importance of rescuing animals and fostering connections with them.

Petco Love's President, Susanne Kogut, expressed her pride in sharing these heartfelt stories, stating, "Love Stories like Amy and Murray's are a true testament to the power of adopting a pet from a shelter and how they change our lives in unexpected ways." Michael Greenberg, President of Skechers, pointed out that since 2019, the company has donated over $8.8 million towards supporting animal welfare, helping more than 1.7 million animals across North America. Through these collaborative efforts, both organizations aim to raise awareness, drive pet adoptions, and ensure that no animal in need is left behind.
