In a significant move toward sustainability in energy technology, Daikin Industries, Ltd. has entered into an agreement with Hitachi Energy to supply C4-FN, a specialty gas component critical for the EconiQ® portfolio of SF6-free grid technologies. What is C4-FN?


C4-FN is an innovative insulating gas that serves as a more environmentally friendly alternative to sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), a potent greenhouse gas with a global warming potential that is approximately 24,300 times greater than carbon dioxide. As nations grapple with climate change, transitioning to alternatives like C4-FN represents a crucial step towards reducing emissions in power generation and distribution.

Starting in 2027, Daikin's Frankfurt facility will manufacture C4-FN, fortifying Hitachi Energy’s capability to develop and deploy technologies that minimize environmental impact while maintaining performance and reliability. This enhanced production capacity aligns with Hitachi's multi-sourcing strategy, aimed at securing vital materials needed for their innovative energy solutions.
