Schneider Electric and One Click LCA: A Path to Transparency in MEP
In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at improving environmental impact assessments, Schneider Electric has partnered with One Click LCA, a leader in sustainability software for the construction and manufacturing sectors. This collaboration seeks to address the critical data shortages surrounding mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) products, which are essential in the decarbonization efforts within the construction industry.
As the built environment accounts for nearly 39% of global energy-related carbon emissions, and with projections indicating that 50% of current buildings will still be in use by 2050, focusing on modernizing existing structures is crucial. Schneider Electric believes that enhancing the efficiency of these buildings could reduce their lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 83%.
However, a persistent challenge faced by professionals in architecture, engineering, and construction is the lack of reliable environmental data concerning MEP products. Through this partnership, users of the One Click LCA platform will have access to detailed environmental data for Schneider Electric's products, enabling more precise calculations of a building’s environmental impact. For the first time, complete MEP environmental data will be available at this scale from a manufacturer.
Sorouch Kheradmand, Global Sustainability Director at Schneider Electric, emphasized the importance of reliable environmental data for informed decision-making in the construction sector. “By making our MEP product data publicly accessible via the One Click LCA platform, we aim to set a new transparency standard in our industry,” he stated.
Panu Pasanen, CEO and founder of One Click LCA, echoed this sentiment, highlighting that access to manufacturer-specific MEP product data has been a significant gap in lifecycle impact assessments. “This unique partnership with Schneider Electric represents a substantial step towards closing that gap. By integrating detailed electrical product data into our platform, we empower AEC firms to conduct more accurate environmental impact calculations,” he said.
Collaborative Efforts on Environmental Data
The collaboration between Schneider Electric and One Click LCA encompasses several key activities:
- - Integration of Environmental Data: Schneider Electric's environmental product data will be integrated into the One Click LCA platform, significantly enhancing the data available for lifecycle assessments.
- - Knowledge Exchange: The partnership facilitates the exchange of knowledge that promotes better evaluation of building environmental impacts.
- - Improved Product Selection: Enhanced capabilities for product selection aimed at designing sustainable buildings will also be a focal point of this collaboration.
