Eve Air Mobility Partners with BETA Technologies for Electric Aircraft Supply Chain Enhancement
Eve Air Mobility Partners with BETA Technologies
In a significant move for the urban air mobility sector, Eve Air Mobility has officially partnered with BETA Technologies to supply electric pusher motors for its upcoming eVTOL aircraft. This collaboration aims to strengthen Eve's supply chain as it prepares for the production of its conforming prototypes, a crucial step toward commercialization.
Eve, which is publicly traded on the NYSE under the symbols EVEX and EVEXW, currently holds a backlog of 2,800 eVTOLs. The partnership with BETA, which could potentially be worth up to USD $1 billion over the next decade, marks a pivotal enhancement to Eve's operational capabilities. The selection comes after a thorough evaluation period in which Eve acquired BETA motors to test and validate their performance in an engineering prototype, with the first flight anticipated to occur by early 2026.
"Integrating BETA Technologies into our supply chain is a landmark achievement in advancing our eVTOL program," stated Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility. He emphasized that BETA's electric motor technology will be crucial for powering Eve's aircraft during cruises, contributing significantly to their propulsion architecture’s maturity. This partnership reiterates Eve's commitment to working with suppliers who adhere to rigorous safety standards while delivering reliable engineering solutions.
BETA Technologies specializes in electric propulsion systems, and is renowned for creating designs with exceptional power-to-weight ratios and energy-conversion efficiencies. Its motors feature simplified designs with fewer components compared to traditional aircraft engines, enhancing safety and reducing costs—a crucial factor for scalable urban air mobility operations.
Kyle Clark, CEO and Founder of BETA Technologies, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership: "Working alongside Eve Air Mobility allows us to provide our electric propulsion technology to their innovative aircraft program. Our systems have demonstrated high performance and reliability across various demanding operational environments. Our manufacturing capabilities will enable us to meet Eve's production demands on a significant scale, pushing electric aviation toward wider adoption."
The collaboration with BETA marks a strategic addition to Eve's existing supplier network, which includes major players like BAE Systems, Garmin, and Honeywell Aerospace. This alliance emphasizes Eve's goal to collaborate with leading aerospace innovators to drive its developmental agenda forward.
Eve's designed eVTOL aircraft utilizes a lift + cruise configuration featuring eight specialized propellers for vertical flight, with fixed wings optimally configured for cruising. The inclusion of dual electric pusher motors ensures propulsion redundancy, essential for the utmost performance and safety during flights. This configuration allows for tuning of distinct systems for individual flight phases, leading to simpler maintenance and lower operational costs, all while reducing noise emissions—an essential characteristic in urban environments.
Currently, Eve is in the testing phase of its eVTOL development, conducting a rigorous series of tests on prototypes to assess various operational and performance metrics, from basic flight capabilities to sophisticated safety features.
