A Celebration of Coffee Mastery at the International Barista Cup 2026

On September 4th, 2026, Vienna transformed into a global stage for coffee aficionados as the International Barista Cup Grand Finale was hosted at the renowned MuseumsQuartier. This prestigious event brought together 15 national barista champions from various corners of the globe, each representing their respective countries and showcasing their exceptional skills in brewing the perfect coffee.

The Grand Finale: A Quest for Excellence

The Cup concluded the national competitions held across 15 countries, including Austria, Italy, Germany, China, Georgia, and Croatia. Out of more than 350 aspirants, only 15 baristas advanced to the highly competitive international final. The event featured three challenging disciplines: Espresso, Cappuccino, and Signature Drink, where these baristas displayed not just their technical expertise but also their artistry and creativity.

Elizaveta Rîmscaia from Moldova took home the Overall Champion title for 2026, a culmination of her hard work and dedication to her craft. The event was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of the coffee culture that these champions embody in their daily routines at cafes, restaurants, and hotels worldwide.

Christina Meinl, Vice President of Group Strategies and Corporate Communication, expressed her pride in witnessing these talents perform. "Experiencing the national champions together here in Vienna is truly special. They work with Julius Meinl coffee daily, shaping the café experience for guests... Their expertise, enthusiasm, and emotions are what make the Barista Cup distinctive," she shared.

Individual Achievements in Coffee Craftsmanship

In the various rounds, judges assessed the baristas on taste, balance, creativity, and execution. The Espresso discipline champion was Stefan Kot from Poland, while the Cappuccino segment saw Mario Benetseder of Austria emerge victorious. Luka Darispanashvili from Georgia claimed triumph in the Signature Drink category. Each champion not only excelled in their specific discipline but contributed to the vibrant tapestry of global coffee culture.

A Journey Beyond the Cup

The four winners, including Elizaveta, have earned an incredible reward: an exclusive coffee origin trip to India. This journey will provide them hands-on experience in coffee cultivation, harvest, and processing. They will also engage with the Julius Meinl Generations Program, a joint initiative with Fairtrade aimed at empowering coffee farming communities and ensuring sustainable futures for the next generation.

This innovative program emphasizes shared knowledge across the coffee supply chain, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for coffee's origins.

Opening the Doors to the Public

For the first time, the Grand Finale was accessible to the public, drawing thousands to Vienna. Attendees experienced live competitions and gained insights into the world of coffee, with over a thousand cups of coffee served throughout the day. The event beautifully merged the craft of baristas with the passion of coffee enthusiasts, showcasing the richness of this beloved beverage that continues to connect people worldwide.
